Grades and rigor are great. TO? Did your kid submit the APs instead of SAT/ACT? How does one do that anyway? |
I’ve heard this too, but then also that UMD, like many schools needs to balance the class to ensure all majors are represented. Aren’t those two contrary goals? |
OOS 3.9/4.4 from a private school. 13 AP exams. SAT 1550. Kid was applying for CS, not admitted to major, and a spring admit. Going elsewhere! |
Why not? A performing arts major is largely admitted based on their audition. As long as their GPA and course rigor is acceptable, the audition is the key factor |
Seems like they might be yield protecting with spring admits for oos kids they know aren’t likely coming. |
OOS, TO did it once while sick with a 1410 and didn't touch the test again. Did submit AP scores, and I think they self reported on the common app. |
DS just finished first year at UMD, first semester was FC. His experience was similar in almost every way to his friends who were fall admit - adjusting to a dorm and roommate, structure of college classes versus high school, went to sports events, tested out clubs, made new friends, watched kids who had never had alcohol before test out beer, took the metro into DC on weekends, found a favorite boba place near campus, etc.
In other words, if your DC has the opportunity and wants UMD, FC should not be a deterrent. |
