UMD

Yep.

If you aren’t a minority and don’t have great scores, etc. it’s a crapshoot.

I wish U MD would do what UNC does and prioritize in-state students.

As a Terp, I’m sad that my alma mater has changed so dramatically and is not a real option for most mcps students.

I know students with good stats whose families had donated a lot of money who didn’t get in. Many people are over it and don’t bother applying anymore.

Fwiw, there are countless options elsewhere—with better/safer campuses in good communities. I think it’s actually better for kids to venture farther away and have a different college experience.

Blair - 373 applied, 164 accepted (2023)
WJ - 402 applied, 205 accepted (2023)/351 applied, 150 accepted (2024)

Is that 2024 complete, or missing information? That's a huge drop.

NP - my guess is that this is complete data because the UMD data loads very early on automatically, months before the Naviance surveys even go out. So the data must come directly from UMD. My guess is that more kids got the message that they didn’t have a chance at admission so they didn’t bother applying.

I wouldn’t call it a crapshoot for anyone in state for general admission (not leps) unless they’re on the stats border. There was also a Supreme Court decision last year you might want to brush up on. The Naviance charts show what you need to get in. Of course, if you mess up your application, you might be that rogue red mark in a sea of green. If you’re at 1360 and some Bs, yeah, you’re holding your breath and rolling.

The FAFSA debacle also may have contributed - apparently there was an across the board drop in applications at various universities that many are blaming on that.

OP, why do you want to know this? What will you use the information for?

Umd has 3k out of state students undergraduate vs 23k in state. Moco has the largest percentage of those students. You can view the data:
