If you aren’t a minority and don’t have great scores, etc. it’s a crapshoot. I wish U MD would do what UNC does and prioritize in-state students. As a Terp, I’m sad that my alma mater has changed so dramatically and is not a real option for most mcps students. I know students with good stats whose families had donated a lot of money who didn’t get in. Many people are over it and don’t bother applying anymore. Fwiw, there are countless options elsewhere—with better/safer campuses in good communities. I think it’s actually better for kids to venture farther away and have a different college experience.
