Wanting freedom is antisemitic? |
It's probably a Muslim or an Arab student who was quoted. Do we really, really want to 'out' them for expressing their outrage over what's happening to their people?
It's not antisemitic. Period. |
Wanting to wipe out Israel is antisemitic. That’s the meaning of the quote. |
It appears to be a muslim/arab student - my daughter is at YHS and I've looked through the yearbook briefly. Frankly, I had to be my magnifying reading glasses on just to see the quote in question. DD doesn't know the student. I'm Jewish, but I'm giving some grace to this student who is probably reacting to what is going on in their homeland. |
Please tell us what form of expression of support for the rights of Palestinians to live in freedom, dignity and peace would be acceptable to you. For many people, there is no acceptable expression because they don't view Palestinians as humans. Just admit it. |
You, AIPAC and ADL can keep saying that, but all Palestinians want is to live in freedom and peace. And since Israel will never give that to them, that's where the uprising comes from. I'll say it myself: "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free." Also, students have the right to free speech. This isn't even hate speech. It's a call for a two state solution. I say good for the Yorktown Yearbook staff for letting the student express themselves. Hurt feelings is not antisemitism. |
Actually per the Supreme Court, student free speech is limited if it creates a hostile environment on campus or disrupts the ability of students to learn. An antisemetic sentiment is not protected |
So you get to decide the meaning of the quote? Not the student using it? Seems like you are assuming this student is expressing genocidal intent towards Jews which is absolutely disgusting. |
What you’re saying is that the existence of Palestinians is antisemitic. Even drinking water is antisemitic these days. Breathing too. |
From the river to the sea, Palestine will be Free!!!! 🍉 |
Thinking Netanyahu and his government's actions in Gaza are despicable overkill is not the same as wishing to annihilate all Jews. |
Calling for the elimination of Israel is. I think what’s happening is disgusting, but Israel has a right to exist and Jews have a right to live there. |
The overuse of the term antisemitic waters down its impact. There are a lot of people that are horrified by what Israel is doing - and has been doing for many years - to the Palestinians. At the same time, I, for instance, have Jewish heritage, great Jewish friends and am not remotely antisemitic. |
I'm so confused. From the River to the Sea is used by both sides - but it's only awful when the Palestinians say it. Is that correct? |
Interesting. Should the yearbook also ban quotes in support of wanted war criminals? Should those statements in support of war criminals regimes be protected? |
