| PP here - I forgot to add the LV pouchette metis crossbody in monogrom empreinte |
If you're referring to the Jane, I agree. I was clicking on handbag links here on another thread because my favorite Herve Chapelier shopping tote (canvas, inexpensive) was falling apart. (10 years old and used everyday for everything, including carrying my dog. 😂) Of course then I start getting all sorts of handbag ads. The Jane was one of those and I loved it. |

These choices scream I know nothing about quality. I would go with brands that still hand stitch their bags:
- Valextra - delvaux -Moynat - Serapian Milano - Joseph Duclos (best of the best) -Moreau - Colombo From the loud luxury brands the two that are still good quality are Hermes (but over priced for what you get. Joseph Dulos is so much better) and then Bottega. |

If you want a LV that will actually be really useful, get the Neverfull. I use it far more than any of my crossbody bags - it works for travel, work, and weekends. Plus, it comes with a clutch/wristlet that is an added bonus and I use that a ton, too. It is nearly indestructible. I’ve had mine for many years and it still looks amazing.
Just my two cents from someone who owns/has owned Gucci, YSL, all the trendy stuff. I’ve actually been selling some of my designer bags because while beautiful, they aren’t useful. |
JMO but I hate the clasp on this one. I bought it and sold it. |
I think these miss the point for OP. It is her first, and there is something about it being recognizable (hopefully subtle) that is exciting. Crazy as it is, I still remember my first. A Louis Vuitton Speedy. (There wasn't much else back then.) I love Joseph Duclos, but it feels like something you will see more in Paris than in the US on an older woman. Though I love https://josephduclos.com/en/collections/sac-a-main/products/sac-saint-clair-cuir-arpege-ardoise-bleu-riviere |

When I felt that family took me for granted, I made an impulse purchase and got myself a
Bottega crossbody. I love it! |
| To me, these bags are all functional, not frivolous. So buy the one that you will use the most, and use the heck out of it. For me, none of these really fill a regular need in my life, so it's hard for me to say. But do what makes sense for you. |
+1. The monogrammed LVs are tacky. Lots of high school and college kids have the Gucci. I like the Lou Lou. |
I'm the opposite. I like LV monograms. Hate the Lou Lou. But agree re: Gucci. |

I like the LV best if you need a tote. The Neverfull can be cinched up to be similar shaped and can hold a laptop if you need that. I have a neonoe that I like best. It’s hard to pick.
I have a cheaper bag similar to the Marmont. I use it a lot when I want a crossbody but the leather gets a little scratched up over time on this leather. I don’t love this YSL style, if you try this and the Gucci, make sure it fits your phone. |
They are recognizable though to those in the know and those who appreciate quality 😀 If it matters, Taylor Swift has a Joseph Duclos bag 😀 From that list, I like Valextra and Serapian Milano. |
I’m 49, going to Paris for my birthday, and have never heard of Duclos. What gorgeous bags. Many years ago, my mother got me a cross body by a brand I think called Karine Dupont from her store in Paris, which I still have and love. Not branded and lined in I think a viscose. I wasn’t planning on buying anything this trip and this is tempting me! |
| Of those three, definitely the LV. I have a similar Gucci crossbody that I just never wear anymore because it feels horribly out of style and too young for me now. I will be selling it if I can ever get around to it. |
| I love the quality of mulberry. |
