What did you cook for dinner, cost, time?

Tonight’s dinner was meat sauce and pasta, and cherries for dessert. Pasta took the longest at a little over 20 minutes and the cherries were most expensive at probably about $5.

Did the 20 minutes include waiting for the water to boil? Otherwise was the pasta cooked to mush?

$8 chicken, $1 green pepper, $2 cucumbers and tomatoes. I already had onion rolls, butter onions and seasoning

if you ate it you have to count the cost.

Nope you have to count the cost of all food items

Anonymous wrote:I had one small yellow potato that I "baked" in the microwave for three minutes. I topped it with an avocado and greek yogurt. Probably $2.

DH and child 1 were at an extracurricular and got food at a coffee shop.

Child 2 didn't want to eat and then later finished up leftover cottage pie: ground turkey, onion, corn and mashed potato. (that whole meal took longer, didn't cost much and provided leftovers!).

He also had a nectarine which were like $13 for the bag! I see the in-season fruit and load up a bag and then when it goes through as $13! That's crazy! I'll make sure we eat them all even if I have to make them into a cobbler.

I spend so much on fruit. I try to buy local in season so when something like berries come into season I buy sooooooo many! Worth it though. I can’t wait for peaches.

Kabobs made with chicken thighs, pineapple, onion and red pepper marinated in teriyaki sauce.

It was not last night, but Friday evening. I had pasta with tomato sauce and fake feta cheese. It was delicious, and it was a fast dinner for me.

Oh, yesterday I also made a cherry pie with phyllo dough. I bought phyllo sheets.

Peach and nectarines aren’t in season yet. You are paying o cut of season prices for CA fruit. In the DMV, mid-late July is stone fruit season.

Thanks! Yeah they were front and center with the huge thing of strawberries which were 3.99! Woot woot! So I didn't even blink. I skipped strawberries a few time when they were $10 this winter but gave in a few times.

Like a different PP we pay a lot for fruit. Gotta mix it up in season and out. And bananas are a constant and those are not local.

I made enchilada casserole…leftover homemade tomato soup ($4) combined with leftover taco meat (IDK, meat came from one of our Angus steers). Add black beans ($1.39) and frozen corn from our farm last year ($0). Cheese ($3), and a few tortillas to make the layers ($1.50?). Fed our family of four with one portion of leftovers and enough enchilada sauce to make another one in a few weeks (froze it).

It is hard for me to figure the price of food because we make a lot of it ourselves, there are costs (like feed for the cows, fertilizer for the cornfields, etc.) and of course labor, but by the pound it’s hard to figure out.

Me again…forgot time. I assembled in about ten minutes, then it baked for half an hour while I fed the horses. That was totally hands off though, so I don’t really count that.
