What did your child write their essay about?

It should be your child’s authentic voice. That’s the important thing.

My older kid wrote about books. My younger kid is working on the essay now and it’s about stumbling across a movie that ended up having a big impact on DC. The original topic was sports related and DCs teacher was pretty critical.

being honest with friends about having a chronic condition instead of hiding it and finding support and acceptance

Illness - another off limits topic.

Ugh no. If the essay was interesting and written well, ignore the teacher. My kid's language arts teacher pretty much redlined the entirety of my kid's essay. I read the teacher's edits, I read my kid's - told my kid to submit original. It was the right choice. Don't let any teacher take away your DC's voice. What they are writing about should be authentic, not screened through the eyes of someone who may not even know them well.

Failing his drivers test 4x. Embarrassment, perseverance, and then how excited he was.

DC1 wrote about the imaginary country they invented (along with its system of government and laws, flag, military, education system, etc.).

DC2 wrote about the chronic illness they suffer from and its effect on them as a person.

Kid refused to tell me, so I’m assuming the topic was “my mom is a crazy b—“. But I could be wrong.

My DD wrote about finding out at age 15 that her friend was suicidal and how it changed her perspective on life. (Psychology major).

My DS wrote about his very ordinary job at a golf club which touched on his enjoyment of being out in nature but also the issue of the “haves and the have nots” (politics major).

Both could have written about sports but were counseled not to. Both got into their first choice school.

What a bizarre and a-historical take. People who know any history whatsoever know that industrial slavery in the US south drove the African slave trade, and that US industrial slavery was an institution built and dominated by white Europeans.

Are you a family of Nazis or some other sort of propagandizing bigots, like neo-Confederates? Those are the only people I’m aware of who try to pass of the nonsense you posted as history.

My son is a dare devil; he will climb anything and chase everything. He also is a terrific writer. He wrote about his love for adventure and how it is a catalyst for taking on challenges. He sprinkled in stories of his crazy adventures with cliffs and wild animals.
