I don't carry ammunition everywhere so I go. Off to collect my "Careful Person of the Year" award.
What a weird thing to make a stink over. |
| I never thought we'd be offshoring our gun control to Turks and Caicos, but I'll take it. |
| No sympathy for these people at all. You can't fly with liquid sunscreen over 3.5 ounces but you forgot you have freaking bullets in your bag?? |
Um, yes? How many Caribbean islands have laudable civilized societies with a stellar court system? And how many have impoverished governments with corrupt practices? Stuff like this happens in Mexico and Central America all the time. You get stopped and threatened with arrest unless you hand over cash. |
Why do you assume they are scam artists, like Heil Trump? Sounds like they passed a law and are enforcing it. As sovereign countries get to do, |
I don't feel sorry for him. There are subreddits and groups on Twitter where military guys and KKK members discuss trying to recolonize the Carribbean by testing their security system. This man likely was running an "inconspicuous" test and got caught. He deserved every day of that sentence, respect the rules of other countries. No one wants their country flooded with bullets or guns like America. |
+2 Small island nations don't have gun or violence issues unless it's imported. How do we know his guy wasn't attempting to sell bullets? This could have been a test trip. |
| Biden should place sanctions on turks, they are shaking down americans |
If only these people would just follow the rules. |
A fool and his money are soon parted. |
They are. The biggest problem is that both drugs and guns are entering the island nation from foreign sources. And the drug runners use the guns to protect themselves form local law enforcement creating bigger problems. Their problems are exacerbated by people bringing in ammunition and gun parts independently and then assembling weapons locally. So they added laws banning guns from entering the country. But with lax and lenient enforcement, their problems have gotten worse. Hence they have stepped up enforcement the laws in order to try and do exactly what you say, address the gun and drug problems. But Americans needs to start being much more cognizant when traveling to foreign nations and making sure that they are not bringing in any contraband into the country. Apathetic indifference to local laws is not going to make their problems better and while last year's guy and this year's guy got light sentences, soon they will be giving less and less leeway and leniency to those who are breaking their local laws. This is not a problem with their local laws, but a problem with careless Americans who believe that every country should have the same types of laws that they enjoy at home. But when you travel outside your home country, it is YOUR responsibility to find out the local laws and make sure you don't violate them. |
+1 absolutely no sympathy. If it turned out the ammo was planted, that would be corruption. Most countries have serious gun laws. They are entitled to enforce them. |
They are! By enforcing stiff penalties on people trying to bring in guns and ammo to the island. Good for them. |
| I don’t think this guy ever claimed that the ammunition was planted. I did hear him mention that the ammunition was NOT noticed by the TSA here in this country (I am looking at you Pittsburgh) or whatever security measures they have on a cruise ship. |
“He should have just complied.” |
