Turks and Caicos crime and lack of justice system

The clueless dad who spent 100+ days in jail in Turks and Caicos was just on GMA. Sure, he had a smattering of ammo (but no weapon) accidentally in his luggage, but 100 days in jail plus a $6,700 fine sounds like a great way for a poor island to make money…particularly since there are 4 other Americans currently held for similar charges.

Be careful.

I mean, who accidently brings ammunition in their bag though? How is this even a thing.

What a moron. He deserved it.

That island has known drug problems. They should address that!

I don't feel bad for these numbskulls. Somehow, I've traveled abroad (including Turks & Caicos) dozens of times, and have never been an international incident. It's not really that hard.

How stupid and irrespponsible of a gun owner do you have to be to "accidentally" leave ammo in your luggage?! Sounds like the poster child for dangerous gun owners.

And yet tourists still show up...
Possibly they are fueling the drug problem

That’s how you get toddlers shooting guns.

Let me connect the dots: if the courts are now handing out $7k fines to rich Americans, I wonder if they’ll start planting ammo or trumping up fake charges. Easy money.

I don't feel bad for this guy. I can't imagine how you forget you have ammunition in your luggage. How irresponsible - regardless of local laws.

Be careful? Lol! How about don’t travel with ammo. The fact that this person was so careless with their ammo that it could be in a bag for however long they didn’t realize it is concerning. Obviously this is not a safe gun owner. He deserves what he got.

Einstein -

If I don't own a gun, why on earth would I have ammo (even if planted) in my bag?

I would be pretty easy to clear non-gun nuts.

You went from a country enforcing their stated laws and charging relatively nominal fines, to a corrupt government?

I don’t visit my sister-in-law because of her pettiness . If you have a problem with a country, just don’t visit it.

So you believe they calculate $28,000 in fines will drag them out of poverty?
