DC had a 4.92 wgpa, 4.0 unwgpa from a magnet (1580 SAT; 800 math). Rejected at the T20s they applied to. |
T20s are overflowing with 4.0 gpa freshmen. You need a good extracurricular to stand out. Something with state or nationally recognized achievements. |
Yes, realizing this. |
Went to a grad party for a LCPS school. While talking to a few parents, realized lots of things.
Seeing outstanding credentials needed for UVA as well as VTech. Yes ds should work harder, except thay he is already. Makes me sad. |
* that |
What GPA do you need to get into UVA?
Educational Requirements Applicants must meet one of the following : 3.0 Cumulative High School GPA (4.0 Scale) High School Class Rank - Top 50% AND a minimum 2.0 cumulative High School GPA. 17 ACT Composite Score or 900 SAT Composite Score (test optional) AND a minimum 2.0 cumulative High School GPA. |
On google. Is this a joke? |
That sort of minimum is really only applicable to recruited athletes. If the recruited athlete cannot meet one of those requirements, they cannot go to UVA. For a non-recruited athlete from northern Virginia, you want probably pretty close to a 4.0 unweighted and 4.4 weighted and probably over 1450 SAT. An impressive extracurricular might reduce those benchmarks but a bad GAP can sink you even if you have a near perfect SAT score (see tj conversations). For whatever it's worth, UVA is a very competitive school now. 2/3 of their applicants are from out of state. |
A 1450 SAT sounds below the median. Also, for a competitive major like CS or Engineering, you need to shoot a bit higher. Back when I was there the median e-school SAT was +100 over the college. |
2/3rds are out of state!! Wow, that doesn't seem fair. Virginia has lot of HS population. |
How do kids apply to be recruited in a Sports team? |
Could you help with some examples of outstanding credentials |
Engineering or Comp Sci major? |
1450 is the average. I don't know which average. It is lower for virginia residents. |
2/3rds of applicants are out of state. only 1/3 of admits are out of state. There is a benefit to being in state |
