This is not new. Several years ago my cousin’s son missed most of his junior and senior year and still graduated. It was unbelievable. The bar is at the floor.

Every time this happens an MCPS degree gets devalued just a little bit more.

This is true. And yet, MCPS does not seem to see the watering down of its standards in this way. It's maddening.

The state made a change regarding attendance, consequences for truancy (none), and that course grades shouldn’t be affected by attendance. In response MCPS has removed all connection between attendance and earning course credit, including E3 failure.

It's one of the many things the sate is doing to help close the achievement gap from the top down by eliminating standards and requirements.

Because her behavior is a symptom of a broader systemic problem that we've discussed a lot on this very forum? Chronic absenteeism and the failure of MCPS to enforce its attendance policies?
