This is also a 48% economically disadvantaged student population.

It is tough to get admitted to Stuy but they don’t all go to Harvard. They go to a lot of different colleges including all the CUNYs which offer free tuition to NYC public schools. Unlike TJ many Stuy students come from low income families making these students even more remarkable.

Lol you are obviously not familiar with Stuy. It is like 70%+ Asian. I know there were times where they also were challenged about admissions but I think they kept their standards unlike TJ.

I am familiar with Stuy and that Instagram only showed the top universities graduates are attending and I would bet an Asian student created it. Look at the website and see how many universities the graduates are going to, it’s much more mixed.

NYU was an expensive commuter school, like why,

....because you can live at home and commute. It's cheaper. Plus,if you stay in NY and are lowish income, you can qualify for TAP. https://www.nyu.edu/students/student-information-and-resources/registration-records-and-graduation/transcripts-certifications-grades/verifications/TAP.html and https://www.hesc.ny.gov/find-aid/nys-grants-scholarships/tuition-assistance-program-tap/

if you're very low income, you
may qualify for another NY program called HEOP.

And...there are some immigrant families who don't want their kids, especially daughters, moving away for college.

I went to Stuy and it was life altering. Remember it fondly and so happy they kept the SHSAT despite DiBlasio's attempts to get rid of it and lower the academic standards

900 kids per grade??? That is a huge school.

Yes, it's too big. Signed, Former NYC Public School Parent

As has been mentioned in this thread, many of these students are low-income immigrant or 1st Gen students (born here, parents from abroad), so for financial and familial reasons many stay close to home so lots going to CUNY and SUNY schools.

About 10% go to ivies. Many kids (250+) go to SUNYs and CUNYs. It is a class of 900 students.

are you counting off the student run instagram?

that's not accurate.

some years they have 100 kids to HYP alone.

you can find better data, but here's one quick google hit:

40% go to Ivies in a typical year

In 1987 I think 18 went to Harvard? … graduating class was about 750 then.

Different world in so many ways: NYU was an expensive commuter school, like why, Columbia also embarassing, especially for engineering…

This is one of the best high schools in the country. Why the sour grapes? Can’t you just accept the colleges are impressive.

Blair's college results seem comparable, and Blair is not a full-school magnet.

Blair has 200 magnet students across 2 programs, and that Instagram page has 120 students, so yeah it's similar.

This…the Harvard numbers look horrible.

I am from NYC and know Stuy very well. Infact my kid got in but chose to go elsewhere. The data shows acceptances and not matriculation, so the same kids get into multiple ivies. There is no way 40% go to Ivies. Also, a handful go to top ivies and the bulk go to Cornell.
