What surprised you most about your trip to Nantucket?

I expected it to be beautiful and found it exceeded my expectations. The houses are lovely and there are hydrangeas everywhere. Don’t miss the walk along the ocean that takes you through the backyards of the ocean front houses (I’ve forgotten the name). Overall, I give Nantucket an A+ as the quintessential New England beach town.

the weather was very iffy, cloudy rainy, cool in July. Very expensive and a little boring

It was pleasant and unremarkable. Not unlike hundred of other smaller seaside communities.

That you need to own or rent a beachfront house to get it. It’s really nothing otherwise. (I’m saying this as a person who doesn’t own a beach house!)

What is ACK?

Cute little town, cute ice cream shop, expensive to eat out, preppy white families, flat trails for bike riding, decent MA type beaches. If you are expecting something other than that, I guess you will be surprised?

Bunny Mellon could have gone anywhere for her 100th birthday and made sure she went there.

She didn’t go there because it’s an exciting destination. She went for nostalgia and because that is where she had memories and wanted to celebrate with her family.

The airport code. And people put it on their cars to show how fancy they are.

Next to a pink whale.

Boring and overrated.

You're welcome.

What surprises me most is how much of an outsider I feel. I am a rich, white, preppy person and yet it's a whole extra level on Nantucket. I much prefer the Vineyard of the two, and we have a house on the Cape so obviously that's our first choice.

The people who love Nantucket (or the Cape of the Vineyard) are the people who summer there or go for a couple of weeks every year. With a day trip or a weekend it's hard to have the same experience.

JetBlue has Direct flights to Nantucket right now for like $64 one way. As a Martha’s Vineyard person, this is making me nuts. I don’t want to go to Nantucket. I want to go to Martha’s Vineyard. This summer JetBlue is reducing the number of direct flights to Martha’s Vineyard and increasing them for Nantucket. I have no idea why.

Yes! I do. Nantucket is a lot smaller. And a lot more residents fly private. I can’t imagine that the demand for Jet Blue is higher for Nantucket than Martha’s Vineyard. But I agree it must be or JetBlue is embarking on some sort of wacky experiment.

MV is much easier to access by ferry for many people. And is more popular with people who live in New England and are driving. Nantucket is a longer ferry ride and draws from a broader geography so flying makes sense.

She went there because it’s a perfect place to spend time. She went there because the perfect came long before her hence her family had been going there for a long time, hence the memories.

For excitement she did “touch and goes” with her P51 Mustang on the airstrip in Middleburg.

Thank goodness for the JetBlue flights. One drink and you are there!
