What does a chic 40yo Sahm look like?

Hm. 'Chic' means conforming to the current fashion. It is definitely fashionable in some, not all, circles to not work in an office. Quotidian office job: not chic.

For the fall, I like skinny jeans and pair them with flat knee high boots with an interesting detail on them, a layering camisole or tee, and a chunky Vince sweater. I try to add my personality through interesting accessories--love Indian inspired chandelier earrings, layered long necklaces of different sizes, and an oversized handbag like Kooba or Rebecca Minkoff.

Agreed, I have similar taste, though might sub in an oversized men's watch for the layered necklaces. Black leggings or Ralph Lauren type riding pants are great with boots too if you are slim with a chunky sweater. I like Vince, and Vince knock offs with long sleeve tshirts, a great belt, or a tank underneath.

Where do you get Vince knock-offs? Thanks!

Loehman's, Filene's.

IMHO, those sweaters look okay only on anorexics with boy bodies who are 5'7" or better. Boobs totally mar the look (think maternity wear). Being short mars the look (think bag lady).

I pay for my "own stuff" Geez. Some nasty posters today. I SAHM, but I have my own money. Not sure that is any of your business. FWIW, I am 5-9, slim but not skinny, with average proportions.

Vince knock-offs: Sometimes Anthropologie will have the look; even AT Loft; Loehman's, and Filene's as noted by someone else.

You can also search for Vince on eBay.

I just love being comfortable and I've always been thin so was able to get away with it all these years. Do I have to face the music now that I'm 40?

I'm not sure you can "get away" with wearing t-shirts, jeans and sneakers throughout your 30s if you're thin anymore than you can if you're heavy. Looks the same to me in terms of appearance and effort. What am I missing?

For me, chic=skinny + rich

So be as thin as possible and wear the most erxpensive clothes you can afford. Think Audrey Hepburn. Of course the look is not for everyone, and can't say it fits me either.

I'm the PP and you're right...don't think that being thin had anything to do with it (kind of a foolish thing for me to say). My weight has been up and down since having kids but I still wear the same jeans/t-shirt combo. I always thought I was getting away with it because I just felt good in my clothes but maybe I just looked like a schlub (sp?).

New poster so not the poster you quoted, but you absolutely can get away with more if you are young and pretty. I'm in my early 30s and I'm pretty. I look pretty good in jeans and sneaks, though I only wear t-shirt with running shorts and even then they are fitted t-shirts, never baggy. I feel like I can get away with a lot more now than I will be able to in ten years, or let's face it, 5 years. I can throw on short and sneakers, and throw my hair back to run to the store or something and still look pretty cute.

I'm not a SAHM though so on most days I do wear work attire, but on weekends I am very casual.

OP, don't mind the haters who wish they were you. There are PLENTY of them here. Digs at every angle if you pay attention. So don't.

Please, show me anyone over the age of 20 who looks good in Vince. I double-dog dare you. It is the quickest way to look like you are desperately trying to cling to youth.

You people make my ass twitch.
