You just need to call the non emergency police . MCPS is putting out videos about truancy and attendance, but they don’t want to do anything well, then let the Police handle it. I believe you when you say the kids are smoking marijuana. Personally, I don’t care if the kids are at the library hanging out but the second I can start seeing them vaping inside is when I have a problem. |
Correct. |
If you think that MCPD, which is short-staffed, is going to prioritize and actually send officers out for a group of kids who MIGHT be vaping and smell like weed, and PROBABLY are minorities and risk being called racist for interacting with them, then you're seriously naive and out of the loop on what's going on politically in this county. In short: MCPD doesn't have the staff to respond to something this minor and even if they did, would rather do nothing than intervene because they'll get labeled racist for going after black or brown kids. |
Because in this county, we have clearly given up on our youth. Nobody wants to hold these high schoolers accountable, and they know that they can do what they want, without issue. The librarians are powerless to stop it. What can they do? They're not equipped to handle confrontations and it's not like they can physically remove these kids from the premises. School admin is also powerless. No meaningful punishment is allowed. |
MCPD does not ignore calls. If there is an available officer they will send someone out. |
I didn't say they would ignore the call. Depending on how busy they are, they might not have officers available to send. And even if they do, they might just talk to the librarians but not confront the kids. I know this because it happens with kids who are loitering and doing similar things in neighborhoods near high schools. MCPD has a directive NOT to arrest kids. They won't do it for the political/race optics I just said. They also don't enforce truancy laws. |
| Many kids have half days and at lunch many do go out, especially to the Starbucks, I've never had an issue with them. They're kids. I'm sure one or so did smell like weed, doesn't mean they were all doing it or actually vaping in the library. Admin can't do anything and neither can librarians, you just have to hope parents are on top of their own students' attendance and habits. It's not the county's job to raise them. |
Quince Orchard has a closed lunch. They're not supposed to be off campus for lunch. |
| I go to Quince Orchard regularly, both during the day and after school hours. Yes, there are always a lot of students there, especially after school but I've never found any of them to be engaging in problematic behavior. |
Need to build a community center next to the library. Let the quiet people stay in the library, and the loud rowdy people hang out in the playroom in the community center. Hire counselors to provide positive interactions and mentorship to aimless teens. |
| This has happened before in other areas of the county. I’m not going to say where as to not out the situation but schools do not ways know where your kids are and they do not care. I’ve seen high school kids terrorize shopping centers and steal and no one does anything. They leave drug paraphernalia and even sell drugs out in these areas they find to hang out in where no one can tell them to leave. It will get worse as the weather gets warmer. I have no advice; just recognize no one in “power” will do anything. Maybe call the local city council rep but they will be back again. |
OMG! MCPS is Ganglandia!
|
Wait until you have to deal with it in your neighborhood. You are lucky if you don’t. |
"MIGHT be vaping and smell like weed, and PROBABLY are minorities". Really? Students from QO vaping and smelling like weed in a library and you think they are probably minorities? Tell me you don't live near the area. |
It’s a large school. Impossible to enforce this policy. |
