| Does this get the kids PeCheck like the adult? |
Yes, if you sign your kid up for GE, they will get their own Known Traveler Numbers. You put that in the reservation, and that makes sure you get PreCheck. Kids under 18 would get it anyway if on the same reservation as parents who have PreCheck. |
Under 12, not 18. |
It changed last year to cover kids 13-17 if they are on the same reservation as a parent. |
I just learned about this. I am traveling in a few months and thought I was out of luck. My two sisters both have GE. Hopefully I can use this at IAD. |
Yes it's an option at Dulles. Just follow the signs for Mobile Passport when you get to the passport control area. Make sure you download the app now, and up to you, but you can add your info now so you can save time.when on the plane. Then all you have to just before arrival is take a selfie and answer the couple of questions. |
Ah, hadn't heard. Thank you! |
| Hello, if i’m conditional approve and my appt is next month can I still add my kids to the GE? |
| Can I apply for GE prior to October and then add my kids for free after October? |
Yes "Once the rule goes into effect, applicants under the age of 18 will be exempt from the application fee when a parent or legal guardian is already a member of, or concurrently applying for NEXUS, SENTRI, or Global Entry" |
So why would anyone still be doing GE? |
Because not all airports have them so if you are flying into another US airport from international and you also get TSA pre check domestically. |
Two reasons: the MPC line can still be an hour long and last time I tried to use the app it kept crashing so I had to go through the regular line. The GE people walk up to a kiosk and are done in 5 minutes. |
So if the only airport we return to from abroad is IAD, does that mean GE wouldn’t give us much benefit over Mobile Passport? Does GE help with anything else? |
As stated above, you also get PreCheck, which helps a ton with all domestic security lines. And if you ever cross at a land or sea border (only towards the US), GE usually has separate lines. Last year we saved over an hour in the car driving back from Vancouver to Seattle- they have estimated wait times on the signs right before the border. |
