My son’s favorites are granola bars, Zbars, spicy Cheetos, ramen, pizza bagels and frozen waffles. And any kind of cookie! We always have healthier options like yogurt, fruit, cheese, carrots, etc but if that’s all we have, there’s a lot of grumbling. We don’t have the issue of friends coming over often because he is often busy with his sport or homework. When he has free time the kids hang out at the shopping center near the HS or at one particular house with the “cool basement” (where I understand there is a steady supply of Dominos). |
It’s AN option not THE OPTION. And these are all super active boys. |

Oreos
Girl Scout cookies Soft pretzel bites Bell pepper strips and ranch Clementines Fruit snacks Sun Chips Pringles Muffins |
Doritos, Taki's, asdoeted box of chips, hostess or Drakes snack cakes
Ice cream (cones and bars) and Popsicles Snack size chocolate bars, gummy candy Frozen pizza , Microwavable burgers, chicken nuggets, TV dinners (hungry man or swanson) Chicken Wings, corn dogs, Mac & cheese cups. Chef boy ar dee, |
My kids liked sandwiches, quesadillas, taquitos, pizza in any form (pizza rolls, English muffin pizza, etc.), appetizers, leftovers, sliced apples and other fruit with minimal prep (bananas or oranges were fine but they wouldn’t tackle a watermelon, cantaloupe, or even peach or pear that wasn’t sliced). I sometimes made fruit salads (strawberry and banana, cantaloupe and blackberries, etc.).
Basically, it was more of a light meal than a snack. |
Both boys and girls at our house like junky snacks, but the boys are most likely to go for bagels and cream cheese and/or quesadillas when they want something more like a meal. Costco also has big boxes of taquitos that they love. And weirdly, those huge croissants. |
Cotton candy grapes |
OP here. Thank you for all the ideas! |
Too funny, when my parents' house was the teen hangout spot for my baby sister & her friends, I remember them going through SO MUCH hummus with veggies (carrots, bell peppers, cucumbers). Also bag upon family sized bag of pretzels. And my mom was always baking cookies. |
These are for snacks, like after school. These are not for meals. |
In high school we LOVED hanging out at my one friend's house because we knew her mom always had homemade cookies. I'm sure it was just from refrigerated dough or whatever, but something about a tupperware full of soft cookies made us feel like it was the best hangout place. |
+1 to cotton candy grapes or any fruit. Also recently they have all loved rainbow goldfish |
