That's the measure of a human's worth?

Are you new to the planet earth and humanity?

Yes people are judged on their appearance.

Sure it does, lol. I’m sure all of those poor white people are having to teach their children how to avoid getting shot by police when profiled and pulled over.

The risk of getting killed by police while black is incredibly low. Last year 229 black people were shot and killed by police. The preoccupation that black people must teach their kids how to avoid getting shot by police is just another data point in the very robust narrative that humans are very poor at assessing risk.

A MUCH higher number of black people die (like 10-20x+) as a result of cars AND the disparity between blacks and whites is even greater. Systemic racism can be attributed as a cause (worse infrastructure in black neighborhoods, particularly worse ped and bike)… yet everyone focuses on the 229 deaths by cop.

And ignores that black men are far more likely to engage in criminal activities involving the police. D'oh.

Roland Fryer of Harvard nearly destroyed his career when he found that statistically speaking, blacks do not suffer more at the hands of the police. Claudine Gay went on the warpath against him but look who's laughing now.

There. That's the hierarchy, which you already knew about.

Harder in what sense? Just curious. And perhaps the differences are self imposed through poor lifestyle decisions and choices?

Maybe it's because I spent so many years abroad in countries where whites were only ever a small expat population that I saw poor and rich people of all colors that I find the American racial obsession both strange and grossly delusional about reality.

Take some time to learn statistics. This was such a media frenzy with almost nothing behind it. Yes, white people get shot by the police too. But it is super rare for EVERYONE.

Actually more white people are killed by law enforcement than any other race.

The above is an oversimplified perspective. All of these relationships depend on context. A poor latino or white person has a “harder” time than a black person in the most impoverished neighborhoods of DC while a poor black person has a much harder time in rural West Virginia. A poor Latino immigrant has a much easier time in latino ethnic enclaves while a poor black/white/asian/etc person will have a harsher experience. All of these different experiences are happening every day mere miles from one another. Painting a meaningful picture using skin color alone is not so simple or effective.

What does this mean? Just because there's only a small number of white people in a country, this hierarchy doesn't change.
PP's explanation is reality, and just because you might feel uncomfortable about it doesn't mean it is "grossly delusional".

The Left has built whole industries on faulty claims that white cops are running around hoping to shoot black men. And atop that baloney we now have this idea that white supremacists are everywhere. The Left’s ideas are so pathetic that they have to invent reasons to be angry in order to be relevant.

They’re not doing a very good job then, because a LOT more white people get shot by cops every year than black people.

We just don’t riot over it.

I thought this was going to be about acknowledging how racist/classist many well-off, non-white immigrants are.

I have some wealthy Desi neighbors who have said shocking things to me. I think they assume I agree with them because I'm white? I told them I was a offended by their comments and they have since stopped speaking to me.

My SIL is UMC Mexican and she was complained by about the lack of diversity where they live in northern New Mexico. I expressed surprise because the area has high percentages of hispanic and native people. She replied "no, not that kind of diversity-- I mean educated brown people."

I don't know, I'm as white as they come. I know there are lots of racist white people. I am sure I have subconscious racism I need to work on. But I can't imagine a white person under the age of 60 saying that kind of thing. At least not in the US.

All of these people would describe themselves as progressives too.
