| Racism that working-class immigrants face is way different than the kind upper-class folks face? |
|
Is racism that lower economic class BIPOC face different from higher economic class BIPOC?
|
| Yes, for example, people discriminate against me because I haven't joined their country club. |
Well I would say that many people label classism as racism. So there’s that. |
|
I attended elite private schools that were 99% white.
There was a redhead girl a grade below me who was constantly teased for being extremely pale with a no color skin tone. She would get called pasty and veiny along with other more insulting terms I will not say here. |

1. Everyone gets teased. If you think white people are never teased or bullied, you are wrong.
2. Socioeconomics trump race. Poor or working class people have it harder and are judged more than affluent people. This is why it’s important to dress well and speak properly. |
That's the measure of a human's worth? |
Exactly. Relatable. |
Sure it does, lol. I’m sure all of those poor white people are having to teach their children how to avoid getting shot by police when profiled and pulled over. |
The risk of getting killed by police while black is incredibly low. Last year 229 black people were shot and killed by police. The preoccupation that black people must teach their kids how to avoid getting shot by police is just another data point in the very robust narrative that humans are very poor at assessing risk. A MUCH higher number of black people die (like 10-20x+) as a result of cars AND the disparity between blacks and whites is even greater. Systemic racism can be attributed as a cause (worse infrastructure in black neighborhoods, particularly worse ped and bike)… yet everyone focuses on the 229 deaths by cop. |
This dumb trope has been statistically debunked so many times...ugh. |
|
I think you have gotten to what the woke folks like to call intersectionality OP.
There are all different types of isms, classism, ageism, sexism, etc etc. You can be more impacted by one than another or impacted by many simultaneously. |
I believe it. Redheads get picked on a lot. |
+100 Omg, this is so true. |
|
Poor people of color always have it harder than poor whites or rich people of color. Rich whites have it easiest. Among the rich whites, there are distinctions of religion (mostly Christians vs Jews), education, cultural origins, and of course the degree of wealth.
There. That's the hierarchy, which you already knew about. |
