Any kid playing in EDP1 can easily play ECNL
Hence the reason its so easy for an EDP kid to tryout and make an ECNL team. That said, stop comparing leagues and teams. It's about individual players. There are players who can go from EDP2 or ECRL to making a MLS Next team today. |

EDP > ECRL especially VPSL.
There are good RL leagues but VPSL isn't one of them. Decent, but EDP fields stronger teams and has a better rules. |
That’s utterly ridiculous. There are tons of kids in EDP 1 that aren’t good enough for ECNL. Almost every kid on our mid-table EDP1 team tried out for ECNL and only one made it. |
That’s the silliest thing I’ve read in a while. There are probably usually around 2-3 kids on the average EDP1 team that could move to a better team if they wanted, but also a lot of kids that aren’t close to ECNL level. And I love how you try and compare leagues, and then say not to compare leagues in the next sentence. |
I specifically addressed kids/players in the leagues. Not comparing leagues. To make yourself feel better about your kid being in ECNL and all the money/time/travel, you'd like to think it's superior talent to feed your ego and insecurities. ECNL "level"? What's that exactly What's the measurable tangle criteria? What differentiates the standards of quality between the players from Arundel, Bethesda, PPA, Total Futbol, Cerritos, Manassas in EDP (some now NAL) and Loudon, VDA? |
I have no kids that are playing. I'm a ref, and see every league firsthand. I ref MLS Next, I ref ECNL, I ref Nations league, I ref ECRL and I ref EDP 1. And, occasionally, MSI Rec.
So I can tell you, from my objective opinion, that the average ECNL team is far better than the average EDP1 team. |
There are tons of kids in ECNL that can't make EDP1 and NAL teams, so the value of your assessment is 0 |
I know you are but what am I?!? That's about how you all sound right now. |
Does average mean middle to low in table? |
I believe it was a response to show how silly and unscientific the original claim was |
Based on the average referees around here, we're gonna hold off on accepting your analysis as knowledgeable expertise, till proven differently 🤣 |
Based on the average parent around here, I take no offense to that! |
You can't "try out for ECNL" It's literally a league. Most of these teams in EDP and ECNL have a couple strong players and a supporting cast. The stronger teams are dependent on the weakest members of the supporting cast. Many parents love to tie their kids abilities and performance to the win/loss record of the team or because the exceptional player is friends with their kid. No scout or coach sees your kid as you do. |
Average based on your sample size and probably location restricted. There would be way more weight to this if you're speaking from experiencing teams equally in all that you have referenced but the likelihood is small. |

I have a kid who plays for EDP1. He's not that strong, but there are teams at that club have consistently beaten ECNL and ECNL-RL teams at tournaments and showcases.
And his team is shockingly good considering half the kids can't even get to practice most days. |
