Silver Creek? Can kids use bathrooms safely and bring backpacks

So the site greatschools, a source I'd only use for reading candid reviews, contains a recent (Jan. 26 2024) parent review stating "My child has experienced bullying, assault and seen children vaping in class!!"

Vaping in. class.? I believe kids. Any insights?

Yes, kids ARE vaping in classrooms. Teachers have been saying this.

omg. thank you so much for sharing this. That needs to stop yesterday.

That is literally an assault on both teachers and other students. That stuff can be so toxic in so many ways.

Any logistical considerations someone might not know to ask about? Value public school education, not concerned about minute differences in academics/offerings etc., most concerned about emotional climate in kid and parent communities.

Sadly, not being able to use bathrooms at SC will prepare them for their BCC career. The bathroom situation there is untenable. The administration is great at giving lip service, not so great at actually changing anything or making the bathrooms there safe.

Maybe at your school, but I applaud your commitment to hyping this end of days narrative.

I suggest going to the school and not relying on the gossip being posted here.

It is not just happening at one school. Why do you keep minimizing what so many people are telling? If it's happening at 10%, 20% or 30% of MCPS schools, it's still a valid problem that needs to be addressed.

MCPS admin, suppressing facts and information like always. Y'all are toxic.

Admin said they do not have enough staff to do bathroom sweeps of the 13 or so bathrooms.

Issues at middle school level are similar across the various middle schools. How the school handles the issues, especially with the communication to families makes the difference; at least to make families think they are being transparent but often they will tell parents that their hands are tied - fERPA and Central Office Communications. You will not know details. Get involved at the school and community. Volunteer.

We should not solve critical systemic safety issues with volunteer labor. That is unsustainable and irresponsible.

Has MoCo looked into something like this? Sensitive vape detectors? I have no idea how much they cost but there's a blurb at the bottom of the page for getting a quote for your school.

Then start advocating for higher taxes.
