Yeah, agree with PP that the details in your post are weird. Or at least weird in the context of the point you are making -- the details point to a middle class life and budget, and those of us with a middle class life and budget tend to look at budget wedding books. The wedding industry is shady and opaque and the expenses are outrageous -- why wouldn't your daughter want a book like this?

My DH and i are both lawyers and, given your original post, I'm guessing both of our families had more money than you and your DH do. And we looked at budget wedding books and tried to keep certain costs down.

Nothing at all wrong with a budget wedding. Maybe the friend who gave the book is more of a penny pincher and thought it would be useful. To see it as a slam on your ability to pay is WEIRD.

Not OP, but pharmaceutical reps work pretty hard and tend to make a lot of money. (I mean, I wouldn't do it -- Big Pharma is awful and the reps are their pushers, and they tend to use people without a lot of education -- but it is most certainly a "real job.")

I came here to remind the daughter and parents that they MUST have a cookie table with at least 20 varieties. Bonus if all are homemade.

Must say, I find it hard to believe a fellow Pittsburgher would be insulted by someone giving their daughter that book. Don't be a jagofft; just ignore it. Only someone from Mt Lebanon would be so touchy about this. You aren't from Mt Lebanon are you? Andy???

So you're not wealthy, OP. And since your daughter is young and doesn't come from family wealth, she's not wealthy either.

Why are you offended? The middle class always has to keep an eye on money. Heck, I am one of the 1% and still keep an eye on money!!! Maybe you didn't all your life, and that's why you only have a "nice retirement".
