Daughter’s wedding

Anonymous
Daughter is getting married in June in Virginia. She is our only child. We have always lived in Pittsburgh. She moved to Virginia after college and loves it. It is so pretty there.

She is in pharmaceutical sales and her fiancée is a lawyer.

My husband is a retired engineer and I am a retired teacher. We still live in the same house and have a nice retirement.

One of my daughter’s friends sent her a “How to have a wedding on a budget” book recently. She is kind of upset about it and I am too. Not sure how to take this.

Trolls give so much unnecessary info. Fail.

Why are you and your daughter upset?

How do you move through life being so easily offended? I wouldn't have given it a second thought. "Thanks for the planning book, you're so sweet to think of me". Done.

You are in for a wild ride if this is "upsetting" to you and your daughter.

First of all -- you have no role here "ibeing upset". If your DD didn't like the gift, oh well.

OK? So your daughter can be a big girl and tell the friend she found it to be rude. Or she can decide it was a one-off gaffe and she can forgive the friend and move on.

How very odd that your daughter is old enough to get married, but not old enough to manage her own friendships. And how even more odd that your instinct is to run to the internet and cry that your feelings were hurt by someone who is not even directly connected to you.

Op, you're giving us strange details

Are you upset that her friend thinks you're poor?

LOL.

Go all out if you want, blow your money. But know that the wedding industry is laughing all the way to the bank by how much they can get away with.

I think the friend is just being smart. Is the new generation still doing the big wedding shit? It's not a flex to overspend on a one day thing as normal people with good savings, it's just stupid.

Y'all want to waste your money and feel judged by the book.

By lawyer do you Meanwhile Biglaw or government / public interest?

I have no idea what a pharmaceutical rep makes since I don't consider it a real job.

This is something to be offended by?
How stupid.

The friend thinks she isn’t making the right choice

What does her state have anything to do with getting a budget wedding book?

I have a six-figure salary and would definitely use a book like this. I think people should spend less on weddings and more on down payments and charitable donations. Budget weddings are also often more environmentally friendly.
