Algebra is a HS level class.

True.

False.

Anyone who supports equity, inclusion, and diversity must also agree no student lower than 9th grade should be allowed to take algebra.

Not all school districts believe that. Superintendency Reid in FCPS, VA for example has a goal for all FCPS students to take Algebra 8th grade.

It is still a class taken for high school credit. I don’t know of any public high school districts that don’t consider algebra I a class you receive high school credit for, regardless when taken. It is also a credit that is mandatory for high school graduation

Yes, my post on Dr Reid was meant to only respond to above poster saying if believe in DEI then would not have kids take Algebra in MS. In most NOVA districts, it is a HS course that goes on transcript if take, but cannot speak to what schools do elsewhere and to mix it up, I am one that wishes kids could take it whenever they are ready and that only classes that take when IN high school would count on HS transcript.

That's a totally uninteresting technical detail. In MD, for example, 4 years (not credits!) of math are required, regardless of which "high school" classes are taken in middle school.

World Language 1 also grants HS credit, despite being taught to millions of elementary schoolers.

In my district, classes taken for high school credit in middle school are listed on transcript, but the grade received is not included in their high school GPA, that is only made up of classes taken IN high school

My seventh grader is taking Algebra this year after being offered a spot last minute (her test scores were just below the threshold)

It's been hard, but... she was really motivated to take on the challenge (undergoing ADHD testing at the moment, so I feel your pain!) It's resulted in some major meltdown evenings with homework, and trying to skip homework... but after the first few months, she's really getting it now and is quite proud. I think she's solid but not gifted in math. I didn't encourage her to take it, but... old enough to start to make these decisions for herself.

Best of luck!

Get ahead of the class on Geometry, then. Most kids seem to find it much more difficult than Algebra I, although my DD's theory is that kids that do well in Algebra will struggle in Geometry, and vice versa.
