Leaving the house is so expensive

If you’re not in the habit of watching what you spend, yes.

We always watch what we spend, because DH is a rags-to-riches sort of person. He’s taught my middle class self good spending habits.

You are not under some obligation to spend $250-500 a week on "activities" for your family. What are you even doing? Trampoline gyms and mini golf all the time? Why?

NP but you are extremely annoying. I also am confident you’re a frugal legend in your own mind but don’t *actually* know what you spend…

Triggered much? Sorry you're broke.

Eating out is expensive. So is skiing. My 2 splurges. And the occasional concert, but that’s only 4 a year or so. And a few vacations a year.

Most stuff l do on a regular basis is free or cheap - l like to go to museums and galleries, hike and bike ride, go to movies. My bike is 20 years old and hopefully I’ll be using it for 20 + years more. I use metro a lot and live close in on the red line so it’s rarely more than $3 or so.

What are you spending on that’s $100 2-4 times a week? That seems like a lot.

OP here I’m not just talking about activities I’m talking about trips to the store to buy random stuff like pillows, house decorations, or toilet paper.

You could just spend more time posting on DCUM. It's free.

I read an article I. The Post a long time. A family complained that DC was too expensive.

The drive from Ashburn to the free museums and blew a ton of money eating out instead of bringing their own snacks, water, and meals.

If you spend money, life is expensive.

I went to a concert recently: $20. I didn’t have a drink.

Going out costs a lot if you don’t plan to spend less and don’t watch your spending.

How often do you buy pillows? How often do you decorate your house? Toilet paper is a necessity but surely you are not buying $100 worth of toilet paper multiple times a week.

Oh, so you're stupid and don't know how anything works. I can tell by the way you equate pillows, house decor and toilet paper.

You can not take those trips. Purely optional. The hedonic treadmill is real!

I mean yes, inflation is real and shops are more expensive these days. But do you really only leave your house in order to go shopping? We went for a walk this morning to drop off something for someone on buy nothing but mostly it entailed jumping in puddles for the better part of an hour. In the afternoon, we went to the library. Tomorrow morning we’ll go to church and in the afternoon to the playground. I did do our weekly grocery shop yesterday which was on the high end for us ($150) but still that’s a choice I made since I knew I wanted shrimp tonight. I don’t buy anything regularly but groceries; other purchases are only on an as needed basis and there’s not really a lot we need. Don’t have Amazon prime and see if you can live without something for a couple weeks before replacing it.

And you voted for Biden, right?
