It isn't a test you prep for.

Of course it is.

Honestly, there is no need to prep for it. What your child should prep for, is taking a timed test. They have no experience, and have to learn to move quickly through the questions. When DD took it, she said that most kids did not finish the first section, but then figured out how quickly they have to move through the remaining units.

We recently received this information from my child’s teacher:

“The test format has changed—it is now a computerized test instead of a paper-and-pencil test. One of the most significant changes is that the test now consists of a single section with 60 questions, and students will have 40 minutes to complete it. Previously, it was divided into four sections, each with 15 questions and a 10-minute time limit. The test will have a built-in timer that students can choose to display on their screen. If they find it distracting, they will have the option to hide it.”

Wow, thanks for the info. We have heard nothing.

You need to know 7th grade math and work quickly. That said, we looked at questions because our kid was worried. It took 30 seconds to realize that the questions were stupidly easy for him and to stop worrying. He enjoys math competitions so the timing wasn’t an issue and the material was straightforward.

That said, a good number of kids don’t pass at the necessary threshold to take Algebra 1 in 7th. That should be ok with parents because proper placement in math is important is establishing strong skills.

But what really is Math 7? Think nationally. Math 7 is just a name. Most of the topics are actually taught in 5th grade in other states/districts.

Your kid needs to move quickly. That's pretty much it. These aren't long problems.

If your kid runs out of time, they may struggle with the pace of Algebra Honors in middle. It is a high school course.
