SAG Awards

If you like salty discussion about awards shows, the goldderby forums are really funny. They have reaction threads for both the tv and movie awards.

They get really wedded to their favorites, and then those favorites don’t win, they completely melt down. I cannot fathom being that invested.

Jennifer has excellent comedic timing & appears to be gracious and easy to work with.

The funniest moment was Melissa McCarthy and Billie Eilish

Jennifer Anniston had been in some great independent films and played very vulnerable characters. I really like her as an actress. Friends with Money is one of the films. And the rom-coms with Adam Sandler may be somewhat formulaic but she has great wit and charm and chemistry with him and that’s not nothing. I think she seems like a person with integrity. She’s amazing in The Morning Show.

These were enjoyable, if somewhat predictable. The standout acceptances for me were Cillian Murphy and Lily Gladstone. Gladstone looked genuinely surprised and a little overwhelmed and then totally pulled herself together and looked like she owned that place as she went up to the stage. And her speech was really meaningful and devoid of all the weepy "I'm so honoreds" and thanks to a gajillion people. And she had one of the best looks of the night, if not the best. Amazing all around.

Murphy gave such a classy and low-key acceptance for a very deserved award. He seems like such a lovely guy.

I'm calling the Emily Blunt and John Krazinski divorce. She's on a rocket ship. I'm not sure I love her as much as Hollywood does, but she about stole the stage from Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway. Never thought I would say this about Hathaway, but the last several times I've seen her I've been struck at how she seems to be playing something she's not. She doesn't look comfortable in her skin and it really shows.

In contrast, I'm surprised that Jennifer Aniston is becoming the grand dame of Hollywood, but good for her.

Geena Davis is really looking her age and Jeff Goldblum is not. Injustice.

Idris Elba is still fine as h*!!

Please explain your Hathaway remarks.
Do you mean how she acts on the red carpet or are you talking about her performances?

Netflix was mostly fine (I did find out about 60% through that if you are a Roku cable cutter not all Roku’s are capable of live streaming on Netflix’s service as I tried to move from the living room to the primary bed room but 🤷‍♀️).

I would have preferred commercials to those horrible mid-show awkward interview segments. Did not like, at all.

Red carpet/appearances. She's taken to wearing these dresses she just looks poured into and affecting a much more sexy persona. I was going to post pictures but the site doesn't seem to like that and won't post.

It's not really a criticism. It just feels off.

DP. I thought she looked beautiful.

I really enjoyed the show and had low expectations. I liked that there were no commercials and I fast forwarded through most of the back stage visits.

It was surprisingly moving. I thought everyone's speeches were great; not a long list of names, they talked about what the awards meant to them, their first jobs, and I saw people in the crowd looking teary-eyed a lot. No one talked too long or was played off the stage. I liked seeing the clip of Ryan Gosling from Barbie and all the nominees laughing because it was really funny. People seemed happy. I liked Barbra Steisand's speech and Jennifer Aniston's intro.

Agree with PP that Emily Blunt is on fire. She seemed to be there solo so I had the same thoughts about her marriage.

She’s definitely dedicated to her craft. Cher said when Jen was a kid she would eat everything in Cher’s home. Now I think she’s one meal a day. Exercises almost everyday. Maintains friends for 30+ years. I don’t understand how she’s not been able to maintain a serious relationship with a man. Is she difficult to live with?

PP - She does look beautiful. She just looks different somehow. And it's not just age.

Look at her here:

I loved her in Friends with Money and in Cake, too. Good roles and she was very good in them.

Her long-term friendships suggest she's not the problem. She has a bad picker, very hard to find a good man in Hollywood. Brad cheated and Justin was a mistake, they attracted as opposites but their differences were too extreme. And both had big egos. She needs someone outside of the industry, needs to give up the power couple dream and find a good, solid guy like her good friend Sandy B did (even with the sad ending).

Nice observations, OP, although I really hope you're wrong about Blunt and Krazinski.

FYI, apparently they streamed live on Netflix last night, and now you can watch the recorded telecast there. This is actually a great way to watch award shows-- enjoy the clothes, speeches, and bits, but fast forward through the rest of it.

Me too.

Maybe he was working, or on parent duty. More likely she’s getting older, wanted to show she’s still hot and a good fit for more interesting roles. It was a good bit!
