These were enjoyable, if somewhat predictable. The standout acceptances for me were Cillian Murphy and Lily Gladstone. Gladstone looked genuinely surprised and a little overwhelmed and then totally pulled herself together and looked like she owned that place as she went up to the stage. And her speech was really meaningful and devoid of all the weepy "I'm so honoreds" and thanks to a gajillion people. And she had one of the best looks of the night, if not the best. Amazing all around.

Murphy gave such a classy and low-key acceptance for a very deserved award. He seems like such a lovely guy.

I'm calling the Emily Blunt and John Krazinski divorce. She's on a rocket ship. I'm not sure I love her as much as Hollywood does, but she about stole the stage from Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway. Never thought I would say this about Hathaway, but the last several times I've seen her I've been struck at how she seems to be playing something she's not. She doesn't look comfortable in her skin and it really shows.

In contrast, I'm surprised that Jennifer Aniston is becoming the grand dame of Hollywood, but good for her.

Geena Davis is really looking her age and Jeff Goldblum is not. Injustice.

Idris Elba is still fine as h*!!

I only figured out these were on from twitter - aren’t these usually on Sunday night?

Why do you think Aniston is the Grand Dame of HW?

DP

It’s weird about Aniston. I mean, her body of work is lackluster. She does dumb movies with Adam Sandler and the show with Reese Witherspoon. BFD.

DP. And they couldn't find anyone who's actually worked with Streisand to present the award?

I would have like Lady Gaga to be on stage but I am guessing she's busy fliming. Jennifer is friendly with Streisand and was already there so I don't think it was too out of the ordinary. I don't think she'd seen as the grand dame of hollywood though. Just by her recent interviews, I don't think she's interested in the hoopla as much.

Here are some clips.

Jen A's body is ridiculous. Wish I had a fraction of her discipline. The new cut is nice but wish she had done something more formal to go with that great dress.

I know why Jen was chosen.

Years ago Jennifer Aniston did a photo shoot copying some of Barbra’s poses. Barbra gave her some of her original clothes of the shoots for Jen to use. They have been friends ever since.

I believe the recipient of the award pick who they want to present it.

I am not sure why Cooper was part of it.

Re: Cooper, probably the “Star is Born” connection.

Thanks for posting that clip. And gosh, how much have I come to love Fran Drescher?!

Nice observations, OP, although I really hope you're wrong about Blunt and Krazinski.

FYI, apparently they streamed live on Netflix last night, and now you can watch the recorded telecast there. This is actually a great way to watch award shows-- enjoy the clothes, speeches, and bits, but fast forward through the rest of it.

What else is there other than clothes, speeches, and bits?
