Does J1 J2 guy strike you as some paragon of ethical behavior? |
You really think people comply with these policies? |
I mean….yes? I certainly take it seriously. |
In my case my J1 had no such form. J2 and J3 did and I just signed. Legally 100 percent meaningless. Why? getting paid zero to sign form and it is signed under duress as I get fired don’t sign. All it does is really give the right to fire you if caught. And such a gray area. People I work with are home flippers, have rentals, trade stocks and crypto, younger ones baby sit, Uber eats, door dash, tutoring, or maybe help out in wife’s business or do taxes on the side. And higher ups are on boards and have LLCs. Everyone signs those forms. In the remote world everyone has a side hustle. |
Why don't they just put into the employment agreement that if you are found to have another job during the same hours, they can sue you for return of all the salary? |
If you are on the clock maybe. None of my jobs had set business hours as an exempt employee. At best they said I be available when needed. Every Friday night I stayed late and on Sunday night I go on line from 9-11:30 pm to start week all three jobs. I jump back on line 6am Monday to 8am. During week I don’t sleep much and wife and kids up to bed by 10 pm I jump on line watching TV. If anything my full time one job coworkers looked like they had two jobs. We had SLAs and Jira tickets and slack and outlook and gmail have time stamps. I stink bomb you at 7 pm Friday the SLA clock is ticking, I had a rule I only responded to things before 8 am, at lunch or after 5 pm or weekends. During week 9-5 all 3 calendars are in synch. Any meetings at one place will be listed other companies as “focus time” I never scheduled meetings myself ever. I only had around 2-3 hours s week of meetings. My UK job I did meetings before 9 am and West Coast late in day. My NY job I was free for meetings if I had to in middle of day |

I worked at a nonprofit that paid me 230K/yr. I then worked at a 2nd job overnight shift that paid me 150K (Cybersecurity Operation Center). I let another government contractor borrow my technology certification so that they received deep discount from vendor, and they paid me 4K/month. I did that for 15 years and invested that money into the stock market. I got lucky with investment of Apple, Amazon, Tesla, crypto, etc... I recently stopped working at the age of 47 with 15M in the bank. |
