Police blocked street & Crime tape at McLean HS this morning

Anonymous
It's perfectly reasonable to ask whether anyone knows what was going on, especially for those of us with kids at MHS.

FC Police had blocked both directions of traffic and taped off a section of Davidson Road on either side of the small bridge at the creek. They had also taped off the trail through the woods that veers away from the road next to the bridge, suggesting an investigation involving the trail.

This is a spot full of kids walking to/from MHS on a normal day, so yes, it's neither unreasonable nor alarmist to ask what's up.

Yes, it is reasonable to ask if anyone knows what’s going on but it is unreasonable to question the timing of an email while parents are driving to school. The school cannot dictate when crimes are occurring. Clearly, it is not a situation that impact students from a safety perspective.

Who said it was a crime? Some on this thread think it was a pothole to which Fairfax County deployed 8 cop cruisers and reeks of crime tape to ensure no one ruined their front suspension.

If you know it was a crime, then please share what you know and why it doesn’t impact students.

This. If they thought it was going to impact students beyond drop off, they would have altered the schools schedule. But do they need to blast out the exact reason when often early information is incorrect? No. You'll find out by the end of the day I bet.

But people asking to be fed gossip, that isn't confirmed by police or made public, is ridiculous. Schools don't pass along hearsay.

NP here. Why do the locals get so defensive? It is perfectly reasonable for parents wanting to know what is happening at their school. The playing down of important matters, and hyping unimportant matters is what is completely unreasonable.

Stop talking about a pothole and start using the two brain cells you've been given. No one is putting up crime tape on a TRAIL for a pothole. No one is closing off such a large area of road + off road for a pothole.

Potholes around here barely rank one lonely cone. If anything - usually suspensions just get ruined and no one cares.

It is evident that this is something much more serious. No one has evidence. We're merely not stupid like you.

No one was truly concerned for their child, they want to know what the gossip is. I have worked in emergency management and people like this are such a distraction from the matters at hand. Police and school systems would never let children into a school if there was a public safety issue evident. Additionally, they would not let children walk by a scene of one of their classmates being hit by a car, how ridiculous.

Forgive us if we all don't have blind faith in emergency response and the police.

I have no interest in neighborhood gossip. I'm not distracting any emergency management personnel by asking neighbors on a website if anyone knows what's going on.

It's a pretty rare occurrence in McLean to see this much activity - at least 3 police cruisers, fully taped off road and trail - in a residential spot. I have a kid at MHS who walks by this section nearly every day, so yes, if a crime actually occurred on or near this pedestrian trail, then I would like to know.

This activity was not on school property so MHS is unlikely to say more, and I have no expectation that FC Police will proactively release any sort of information.

They are likely notifying next of kin before releasing info.

Many of us have kids who walk to school that way. It is not being gossipy to want to know what happened and frankly I wonder about anyone who chastises families for wanting info.

+1. Same.

Are you making assumptions or do you have info. Was a pedestrian hit?

According to police scanner it was a self inflicted gun shot...
