What are your teens doing for Galentine’s or Valentine’s Day?

My dd15 had a galentines sleepover last Saturday with 6 friends and it was so wholesome and fun.

She has a boyfriend and they are going to get ramen and desserts and come back and watch a movie at our house. She got him a card and a little gift. It’s her first V day with a boyfriend so she is giddy excited.

Dd 15 is excited for a dinner out with her first bf. She hit him candy, made a bracelet and is baking something right now. She also got her best friend, who is not dating, a gift.

She’ll do galentines with her girls this weekend. They’re each bringing food and watching a movie. I love that this has become a thing for girls to celebrate their female friends.

It’s a rough one since it falls on Ash Wednesday, a holy day of obligation with fasting.

So school and church. Or, in the younger’s case, church then school.

Shrimp scampi for dinner, though. And a card and some ‘conversation’ hearts. ♥️

Hah, I’ve heard that one before.

Such an innocently naive PP

It's where girls who are friends get together to celebrate. DD and her friends had a galentines dinner last weekend with lots of heart-shaped and pink foods. Everyone brought something for either dinner or dessert.

Thank you. The girls getting together sounds fun. I would still call it Valentine's with girl friends though.

I’ve never heard of that before. My teen son and daughter don’t have plans other than their normal Wed night things they do.

My dd got all her friends the valentines grams at school. Spending after school with her boyfriend. Homework, going to a simple dinner and going to the movies to see the Bob Marley movie.

I love the galentines celebrations too. Maybe I will have my daughter host one this weekend

Galentine’s Day is technically Feb 13th. Became a thing from the show Parks n Rec but it was such a great idea it has got a big following.

Got my kids little gift baskets and youngest is watching a movie with me. Oldest is going on a double date to Dave n Busters.

So stupid! Let's create more pressure to buy stuff. Not to mention the mental overhead to think of everyone, not leave anyone out, and what if my kid is the one left out. Next thing you know there will be some way to market pointless crap for Memorial Day, labor day, or non-alcoholic gifts for St. Patrick's day to kids. As if the commercial pressure around Christmas isn't enough....

Because it's the latest invented way of commercial marketing, so you and your kids could buy more stuff that they don't need or eat extra chocolate to get fat.

We have a big Irish dinner and I give my kids a rainbow of snacks and choc coins for St Patrick’s day.

Last night we celebrated Mardi Gras with masks, decorations gumbo, and king cake.

Today we do all things red/pink and have a nice meal with sparkling cider in wine glasses. I get chocolate for kids and my husband always comes home with some simple flowers for the girls (we only have two daughters)

You might feel it’s commercial, but for us they are family traditions that my kids adore.
