reasonable cost for redoing master bath

Anonymous
for those who got quotes in the 40s, mind sending your design/builds? I was quoted 50 without fancy fixtures. size is about 8 by 13. That said the 50 is with a design and build so maybe it is worth it. I had a contractor come in and give me a quote of 11, without any hard or design costs so not sure what to make of that.

Design & Build companies are notoriously more expensive. I'd say 20% more at least. We went to a well-known one in Arlington, and they quoted us $40K for a medium sized kids bathroom without even seeing it or hearing what we wanted. It was shocking and made me realize immediately that they weren't a good fit. We ended up going with a contractor who had done bathrooms for two people we knew, had his own showroom of materials, did not sub out the work, had a master plumber and tile guys on staff for many years - and ended up getting everything we wanted for $28K (instead of $40K). But so many people think they NEED to hire a design/build firm. Which is ok, maybe they have no confidence in their own taste, and that's their choice. But then those same people tell everyone what they should expect to pay based on their experience at the higher price point.

mind sending me the info of your contractor?

We just spent about $35K--gutted bathroom, got rid of tub, kept shower in same spot but enlarged it, moved toilet, added his and her vanities. Got vanities with marble tops from Ariel Bath (also on Wayfair), Moen fixtures, floor and shower tile from Best Tile.

Mind what you used? A desgin and build, a contractor and arcitect? etc.

KBR did ours for $18,000. Porcelain tile, new soaker tub, double vanity (added plumbing for the second sink), added lighting. No glass door because we kept the tub/shower combo so I could have a soaker tub.

Try getting a quote from INEX. Their working model is a bit different but their prices are not usurious.

KBR is a complete nightmare. They screwed up our kitchen and are now refusing to fix it. Make sure to check the Maryland court case search and the BBB ratings before making a decision. Wish we had done the same.

+1

Would only consider spending that much on a bathroom if my income was north of 1mil.

Recently did a rip and replace (I know, not the same thing) master bath for about 5k.

That depends entirely on what level of quality you are replacing those items with. The cheapest stuff, say box store made in China or Ikea level stuff would be around $7000. If going mid level quality then around $15,000. Expensive quality then the sky is the limit.

Naahhh that seems way too high. Unless you’re picking the priciest options.

People on here love getting robbed.

Sounds like someone resurrected this thread just to complain about their contractor. I do believe that $40k+ is what you're going to pay to remodel a 5 piece bathroom.
