Was my handyman going to burglarize my home?

Does this handyman have unfinished work to complete? Can you discontinue working with him? I wouldn’t trust him.

This. Get a ring doorbell at the very least.

Yes.

It's suspicious, so it certainly could be for the purposes of burglary. Some tradespeople are horribly disorganized though. Twice in my life I've been the beneficiary of tradespeople doing work on my house (the wrong house) while I wasn't home. Never hired them. They just showed up and started doing work.

Sounds odd. How did you find him to hire in the first place?

Is the handyman affiliated with your builder?

Have you run his named through your area's court database? Did he have the means to steal the appliances- is one other guy and a truck.

Xanax is your friend. You handyman is not going to steal your appliances in broad daylight.

You’re insane.

In the middle of the night. Through a window. The dude did not ring the front doorbell.

You people are nuts.

Most burglaries occur between 10am and 3pm. https://www.adt.com/resources/when-do-most-burglaries-occur#:~:text=Most%20home%20burglaries%20take%20place,break%20in%20during%20the%20day.

You’re naive. OP, I think there’s a very good chance you’re right about this

I think a lot depends on how you found/hired him but get cameras today. It’s a good idea anyway.

If he was going to burgle the place, he’s probably not an ongoing threat. Sounds like if that’s what’s going on he sensed a low risk opportunity that you can just remove.

I don't think so. Why would he do this in broad daylight and come knock on the door? Roll your new refrigerator out in the middle of the day???

More likely answer is something still awkward but not nefarious - he was working a job close by the house that didn't have a bathroom, really had to go and knew you had a bathroom/backdoor open and was just going to use the bathroom quickly and go. Again, sounds weird but if you've never been someone that has worked a job that doesn't have regular access to the bathroom it is a true problem haha

Don’t leave keys around—to the house or your car. (One had their car stolen.)

Always check windows and doors to make sure they are locked after a handyman has been in your home. (Leaving a basement window unlocked or a basement door unlocked endures easy access.)

Yes, most burglars knock to confirm the home is empty before walking around back.

If you don’t have cameras or an alarm, he knows that.

Always trust your gut, OP. That little voice inside us is rarely wrong.
