VA Union We Barely Knew Ya…

Things on the boys side of Union will stay the same. I don’t think they will even change the name

better off why send all your players to another club. If players want a pathway they can do that on their own. Why would a club just ship off players?

What did SYC get out of that "Partnership"
Anonymous
Just curious, what did SYC get out of the "UNION?"

They got ECNL for their girls side! But now it’s back to GA for them. I don’t think McLean benefited one bit on the girls side by joining with syc. Maybe at some ages but not very much overall.

Big step backwards for SYC on the girls side. Seems like their more concerned about their boys side and MLS next.

Why a step backwards. Did not have a league now they do. Do not need a partnership to go to an ECNL club. Kids are free to go from club to club. GA for them as a club is huge move forward. The deal with union just weakened SYC. Partnership is hilarious term only serves the top club. And yes McLean has many SYC players in younger teams.

They did not get ECNL they got top young players poached. Nothing in return except weaker youth teams. As PP said don’t need a union to take your kid to play on an ECNL Club. What did they get? Answer is nothing. Seems like SYC did the right thing for their club. Looks like union figured out how to stop next partnership from falling apart put in one of their own to oversee things. Funny to be TD at one club but coach in another. That is a joke!

SYC players good enough to play ECNL will still play ECNL elsewhere. just will be left with watered down teams.

This is a definitely a step back for girls in the SYC program. If their intent is to play in College--the best way to get noticed by college coaches is via the ECNL. The data suggests the same. The amount of girls from the ECNL committing to top D1 schools compared to GA commits is staggering. If SYC is moving due to their boys...that is different.

Why can’t those girls still go play with any ECNL team?

I think you’re fanboying ECNL..the girls and the club will be fine. If this is a long term thing then I would assume their goal is to keep teams together through select beginning with the 2012s. If anything this is a blow to ECNL

Yes biggest complaint about GA is college ID. ECNL had done a better job coordinating. This is well known in coaching circles. However good kids get noticed. Problem is a good portion of parents think a little too highly of their kids capabilities. Top leagues have become diluted imho. money to be made because parents to chase status.

This wont hinder them a bit. It’s not like they were lights out with merger. The higher probability route is thru main host club. Which also means they miss many outside talent potential. What else is new in competitive soccer? coaches don't want to upset parents. Hence why NVA got no bump as well.

Hopefully something happens to make the boys program more competitive.

If CC can persuade the GA to accept Revolution who can’t even field a girls team in every age group and are bottom feeders in EDP and NCSL, then we’ll have definitive proof of this statement.

He would have to do some really great marketing of the benefits of VR. But if he doesn't, what is their options if they can't find field space in Loudoun? Hike to Springfield??

FCV is owned by STJ. STJ is not giving up soccer. I does not cost that much money to buy a parcel in Loudon and put down turf. This isn't Arlington that we're talking about

If it doesn’t cost that much money why don’t they just do it instead of saying it every year for the past 5 years.
