VA Union We Barely Knew Ya…

Thoughts on email below, everyone? Does this set up a GFR/DMV - MYS merger? Do older SYC female players that merged into MYS for Union stay in place or go back to SYC for GA play? Never a dull moment in DMV youth soccer!!!

Virginia Union Announcement

Three years ago, McLean Youth Soccer (MYS) established the Virginia Union as a collaborative platform centered on the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) travel program and partnered with Springfield Youth Soccer (SYC). Since the establishment of the VA Union, many ECNL clubs in the area have followed suit and developed elite-level alliances similar to the VA Union.

Today, MYS and SYC have mutually decided to part ways for the VA Union alliance at the end of the 2023-2024 ECNL season. MYS and the VA Union would like to thank SYC for their partnership over the last three years and wish them well.

This announcement is not the end for the VA Union. We still believe that partnerships with local clubs are critical to remaining competitive at the elite level of boys and girls soccer. We remain convinced that the Elite Clubs National League provides the best pathway for players to compete nationally at the elite level.

We believe the VA Union represents the best opportunity for players to develop at an elite level, both on the field and in the community. We continue to welcome any current or prospective player from the metropolitan area to try out and play for the VA Union.

The VA Union will continue to explore collaborative opportunities with like-minded clubs that share our core values. We aim to strengthen our collective commitment to sportsmanship, community engagement, and the development of talented athletes.

McLean Youth Soccer (MYS): Since 1970, MYS has served tens of thousands of players and their families by providing organized, developmental, and fun soccer experiences. MYS offers a broad range of soccer opportunities ranging from U4 to U19.  Our mission is to provide a place for every player and a developmentally appropriate experience, promoting each athlete's emotional and physical well-being through the game of soccer.  We offer a variety of training programs, camps, and league participation, including Recreation and Travel Teams. Visit the MYS website at www.mcleansoccer.org (http://www.mcleansoccer.org/)

VA Union:  Since 2021, the VA Union has continued to field successful ECNL teams against the ever-increasing competition in the Washington DC metropolitan area and nationally. The VA Union alliance provides defined player development pathways to partnership clubs and opportunities for players in the metro area to fulfill their potential at the elite level.

I like the idea of TSJ selling FCV to VRSC and partnering with SYC for GA. Seems like a reasonable guess.

that would involve a lot of rebranding and photoshopping graphics, wouldn't it... need to hire a full time graphics designer for all that work!

Not going to happen. FCV already made a different announcement.

They’ve hired a new GA director, new coaches, etc. Still not sure where they will practice but they obviously don’t plan to give up on FCV GA.

FCV is dead, SYC is rising. GA is holding on by a thread in the DMV. Not sure where TSJ fits into this but the other parts are true for now.

If CC can persuade the GA to accept Revolution who can’t even field a girls team in every age group and are bottom feeders in EDP and NCSL, then we’ll have definitive proof of this statement.

He would have to do some really great marketing of the benefits of VR. But if he doesn't, what is their options if they can't find field space in Loudoun? Hike to Springfield??

DS was looking at moving to Virginia Union for next year and I’m confused. Is Virginia Union continuing but just without SYC? Will MYS still call those teams Virginia Union? Or does it mean that the teams will remain but as MYS? I assume they aren’t disbanding teams.

FCV is owned by STJ. STJ is not giving up soccer. I does not cost that much money to buy a parcel in Loudon and put down turf. This isn't Arlington that we're talking about

MYS still has ECNL membership. Union will still exists, the other members of the union are more up in the air

Will MYS still call those teams Virginia Union? For Now, and maybe indefinitely Yes

I assume they aren’t disbanding teams. No, there is no incentive to get rid of good players!
