I'm sorry, OP. I hope he is able to get past this. |
I’m sorry. Hospitals are terrible places for the elderly to be for many reasons. |
I'm sorry, OP. But it sounds like your dad was already in fragile health.
|
NP. Nice "but" in there. You couldn't just stop at I'm sorry? LOL. |
Stay strong, PP. My otherwise healthy dad (late 70s) caught a nasty case of Covid last year and also was quite physically weak and mentally spent for several months afterwards. It's been over a year now and I would say he is 95% back to normal. It has left him with a slightly hoarse voice and the need to frequently clear his throat, but he is otherwise OK. My mid-70s mom caught it at the same time, and while she wasn't quite as sick, she did have an alarming shortness of breath for a time. These were healthy, fully vaccinated people, whose only risk factor was their age. I try to be careful around them and don't visit if I have even the smallest whiff of a sniffle. |
RN here. I'm sorry PP. Hospitals are germ factories. I've had people come to the ER for non emergent needs and wait 8+ hrs because they are triaged so low and I can't help but think about what they are exposing themselves too. My mom also has health anxiety and is a frequent ER visitor and I've tried to talk to her so many times about how gross ERs are.
We try to crack down as much as we can about masks, visitors, making sure perfect hand hygiene is done, etc but it is hard. |
I am sorry OP. This is why people should not be cavalier about the (ongoing) pandemic. The most vulnerable among us remain at high risk. To ignore their susceptibility and not try to take reasonable steps to curb the spread of the virus is selfish. |
I’m sorry. I hope he makes a full recovery. My high-risk aunt caught it 3x at a nursing home. Fortunately, Paxlovid really helped. Has he been given it? It has long bothered me that healthcare facilities dropped precautions. Masking is so simple. People who come to hospitals are already vulnerable. We really need to be doing more. My dad currently has a COVID-like illness. He tested negative but only took one rapid and wouldn’t take another. He missed the window for Paxlovid if it is COVID. It’s been a long bout with whatever it is and I am worried he will end up hospitalized and end up catching something else. |
I'm so sorry OP. Hospitals were so good for so long about protecting their patients from exposure, but that has all gone by the wayside.
And if your dad is anything like my parents, you would never have gotten him to mask in the hospital any longer. |
My mom CCC is back to requiring masks outside of independent living. |
So "oh well" that's what I hear PP. You're an ____. |
+100 EVERYONE should wear one to hospitals if they can. Everyone. We are trying to keep people alive right? Well why isn't this happening?????? |
A similar thing happened to an elderly family member last year. They were living in a 55+ facility and he had a surgery that required a PT stay. He was fine in the hospital and afterwards but caught COVID at the PT facility. It eventually lead to his death. |
My mom is in rehab right now recovering from a fall and as of a few days ago they’re making everyone mask up again. There’s a nasty strain going around. I hope your dad recovers quickly. |
Hospital are where the sick people go and hospital acquired infection is known thing well before covid. |
