Dry January 2024

I am actually going on 16 months sober so this will be my second Dry January. Last year I was putting effort into staying sober every day. Now I find it much easier. I am much better off alcohol free - that's personal to me.

What are your reasons for Dry January?

Honestly, if you’re not an alcoholic, it just doesn’t make sense. If you’re not gonna drink, just don’t drink why does it have to be in January?

DH and I are doing bc we got in the bad habit of almost daily - both stressed with work and using it to unwind. Already sleeping better and actually feeling less stressed.

DP. Fine, if it makes you feel better, we’d walk alcoholics. Now go away. This thread isn’t for you.

This is my first year really committing to it. Went out last night with mom friends and was able to enjoy a couple great mocktails and loved how I felt this morning waking up. I haven’t had an actual hangover in years but definitely was feeling my age during the holidays with being tired and heartburny the next day even with a couple glasses of wine or a couple cocktails.

I caught this terrible upper respiratory virus which has improved my motivation to not only drink but improve my diet. I watched "you are what you eat last night that was also eye opening". I'm going on a retreat which includes a cleanse in February. From what I've read, doing a semi-cleanse prior to the actual retreat/cleanse enhances the benefits.

I am doing it too. I am not a big drinker but I was starting to drink wine by myself on a weeknight for no reason.

I am also tracking calories and it is fascination g

Abstaining for general health and fitness goals. And, as a parent of teens, wanting to have some credibility when discussing alcohol with them.

What's wrong with almost daily if it's always just one drink?

PP didn't say it was just one.

And different strokes -- if PP wants to cut back because one a night feels excessive, then bully for PP.

You sound like a lot of people who get all bristly when a friend says they're doing DJ. "Why? You don't drink THAT much. Have a beer with me!"

I’m doing it - 5th year now. I look forward to the reset. I always lose weight and sleep so much better.

I actually found myself looking forward to dry January this year. Although, I probably drank more than I would at the end of December, because I kept thinking it was my last chance for awhile.

This is me!
So far so good, just having a bit of a more boring weekend.

Trying it this year for the first time. Well, not exactly dry January, but dry 5 nights a week. I got in a habit of drinking 2-3 almost daily across the past couple of years and don't want that to be routine anymore. I'm comfortable with 2-3 a couple of days a week, so that's what i'm trying this month. So far so good.

Still hanging in there in Day 7. How are you all feeling?

I overindulged in the past couple months on both food and alcohol, so I’m hoping for a health reset with Dry January. I’d love to see if it helps my skin as well.
