No thread yet? I will kick it off.
I am actually going on 16 months sober so this will be my second Dry January. Last year I was putting effort into staying sober every day. Now I find it much easier. I am much better off alcohol free - that's personal to me. What are your reasons for Dry January? |
| I am doing the naked mind 30 day experiment. I am not a daily drinker but too much on the weekend and I can slip into weeknights on occasion. I know for sure I am better off without it but have only lasted a few weeks so I want to make it longer. |
| Doing Dry January! It's my 5th, I think. Nice reset. |
| I just need a reset after the holidays and to cut calories a bit. I’d been drinking very little due to TTC but the letdown of a chemical pregnancy followed by Christmas vacation with a big drinking family caused a bit of overconsumption, so it’s time to reset. |
| I’m on the fence about doing it this year, which probably means I should! The winter is just so depressing, and I’m home all day with little kids. Sometimes a nightcap is my only chance to feel like a fun adult. |

I am doing it this year. I did it last year and was disappointed in the lack of “feeling great” I heard so many people talk about, but it was a great way to reset and stop drinking out of habit.
I actually found myself looking forward to dry January this year. Although, I probably drank more than I would at the end of December, because I kept thinking it was my last chance for awhile. |
| I’m doing it for third time (started to try to cut back on more frequent drinking during pandemic craziness). It helps with sleeping a little better and feels like good reset after so many Thanksgiving to New Years drinking events. It helps that I lost a couple of lbs last year although if I didn’t have all the increased snack cravings I could probably lose a few more… |

I did it last year and it kicked off reducing my alcohol intake overall by about 20% last year. I was so looking forward to it this year! I drank much less in December than I have in any prior December but still a lot relative to my intake last year and I really like the reduced consumption.
I have found that a diet ginger ale with bitters or a Fever Tree cucumber tonic is a really enjoyable drink when I want the ritual. Looking forward to reducing by another 20% or so this year. Much easier to manage my weight at 50 this way. |
| I’m doing it bc I need to but it’s hard (which is clearly why I need to do it). I did dry 2 months earlier this year too but then fell back into overindulgence. |
| I am. Fever-tree light tonic water is my new 6:00 refreshment. It’s delicious. I may never go back to wine. |
| It's my third Dry January. I've also done a sober September the past two years. I always look forward to a reset. My birthday is the second week of February so I may go dry until then. |

I love y'all. Truly, I do. Drinking culture is hard to shake, and it takes courage to contemplate what alcohol is/isn't bringing to your life.
Kudos! |
| I’m doing it. It’s my 4th year. I find that it does give me a reset from overindulgence in December. Not having a drink means less snacking and healthier eating habits. And I use it as a month to test different sleep aids to improve my insomnia without alcohol getting involved. |
| Checking in. Did it last year, no physical benefits that I was able to identify, but it did let me process emotions that I was drinking to avoid. |
| I do it as a general reset and as part of effort to lose a couple lbs at the beginning of every year that have typically crept up over previous year. |
