At what age does DC United start to scout players? Obviously, I assume that in 2024 they're not going to come out to see a 2016 birth year player. What ages are they scouting for now in 2024? |
Logic would say they are scouting for players that meet their standards and requirements that can play U14, U15 etc for the 2024/25 season beginning |
| This is not entirely true. They scout and bring in a fair number of U13s to train and play with the U14s,mostly in preparation for the next season. I believe they even have a U12 playing with U14s this season. |
What are you saying is untrue? |
There is definitely a 2012/U12 on the U14 academy this year. |
What are you saying isn't true from the previous post? The poster said they are looking for players that meet their standards and qualifications to play U14. What's not true about that? |
Sorry if it was unclear. The point was . . .they'll recruit and train some U13s that might not normally fit their "standards and qualifications to play U14" and wouldn't be in the top 18 for that squad. They'll recruit a little younger so that they can get those promising kids in the system. |
"...that can play U14, U15 etc for the 2024/25 season beginning" so I guess they were kinda close in saying scouting is based on the future |
Kudos to that kid! |
| No, they will definitely recruit at U11 if the kids are really good. At least that’s what the other parents are saying; we signed up for the extra technical training offered by our club to make sure we’re ready. |
I hope this is a joke. "We". Your club is taking your $$ |
+1 |
Why would DC United recruit players to play U11 when they start at U14? How does that remotely makes sense? |
Aren't all the clubs already? Unless we really think we're all getting $3,800 in value for the yearly fee |
That's twice what we are playing. And to the PP, no. Don't send film of your 4th-5th grader. If they are truly the phenom you think they are (ie, one of the top 25 overall players in the region), your coach, your TD and your opponents know it. After a few years in, you start to notice the kids who really stand out. There's a Takoma Park Friends kid I've seen who is one of the best youth soccer players I've seen in person. Hopefully DCU finds those kids and not all the spendy-club kids. |
