| I thought this was one of the best movies I have ever seen. It was laugh out loud funny, touchingly sad, incredibly witty, and very smart. Satire at its absolute best. I was just blown away by all of it! |
| We saw it over the weekend at the AFI Silver in Silver Spring. Excellent movie. |
This is not surprising. The studio made that call and decided not to spend money on wider Distribution. Its supply and demand.Movie theaters want to fill seats and sell candy They prioritize movies that have spent a lot on advertising and marketing and will sell more tickets. From the movies perspective…. Not sure who produced but Production studios have partnership with larger theaters - regal and AMC.. Independent films usually need a limited release to build buzz then do a wider release. They have demographic and box office data from VARIOUS and know where their audience is. If they release it initially in 1000 theaters and not enough attended then it would “bomb”, which is worse. Personally, this sounds like I’m the demographic and I never heard of it. :) |

Just noticed this was an older thread. It’s 1/15 and I never heard of it and this thread only has a few responses. FWIW Seems like the film Made a good call not releasing it widely.

| We took our teenagers over the holidays and it was a hit. I wasn't sure how it might end and I really liked the way they wrapped things up. All the actors were great. I might have made the writing a bit sharper - it was a satire but not super biting. |
Really? "They worked hard on the Third Reich, so..." I thought it was perfectly biting. |
Totally disagree 97% audience approval on rotten tomatoes (Critics 93%) It is brilliant and highly relevant social satire |
American Fiction is still showing at the Avalon in Chevy Chase (just over border on Connecticut) Avalon https://prod5.agileticketing.net/websales/pages/info.aspx?evtinfo=355408~6c8c0697-5bfe-46a4-9ff7-3b01a44d6e6f&showing=334140& And at Landmark Bethesda Row https://www.landmarktheatres.com/movies/316372-american-fiction/?theater=X06C1 TODAY, JAN 16 3:30 PM 4:30 PM 7:15 PM And in Silver Spring … Especially Considering the other junk on at mainstream cinemas at moment, the film makers did not do a good job with the film distribution. Audiences have generally had very positive reviews … |
Its at AMC at Montgomery Mall - that's where we saw it. It was fantastic. |
| I did not love it. Was clever and had some great moments but not sure the back story was as good as it should have been…. |
| Was better than a lot of movies I have seen recently. |
Loved it! Wonderful movie. Would like a sequel. |
I saw it at the AFI Silver Spring, Saturday night. There were maybe 10 of us in the large theater #1. |
| Just noting that American Fiction star Jeffrey Wright is from DC and went to St. Albans. |
