And isn't that what Social Media is all about. Getting random recommendations for movies and checking them out. . But really, go see it - it's a good movie. I'm tempted to get the book upon which it is based - there was subtext that was lightly played in the movie regarding the housekeeper and her place in the family and the main character's past relationships that I wonder whether they are more fully fleshed out in the book.

I saw it last night and really liked it. The satirical elements were great, but the emotional core made it more interesting to me. (Also made it more complicated. I had read a comment that "American Fiction is one of the funniest movies in recent history." I wouldn't bill it as a comedy!

Sterling K. Brown was so anti-Randall! I loooooove him. And damn, Leslie Uggams is just the prettiest person.

I wouldn't bill it as a comedy but I haven't laughed out loud at a movie that many times in quite awhile!

Agree with all this! We saw the movie last night - and LOVED it. It was so funny, and surprisingly moving and raw. Great performances from every character.

Also, as a very not famous writer myself, I just love movies about unhappy writers. This could be paired with You Hurt My Feelings for a devastating one-two.
