| I understand where you're going with this, OP, but controllers would argue that since until 'children' are old enough to legally make their own decisions, they shouldn't be allowed to vote. Parents should decide what is best for their minor children, especially as it relates to health care - even if they don't believe abortion is health care. |
+1 What a joke. |
*chortle* You’re joking, right? Just because you can use Google doesn’t make you better informed. |
| I don’t know about changing the age limit, but if people were required to pass a basic, and I mean BASIC intelligence/education/information test, the world would be a much, much better place. Too many imbeciles are allowed to decide the fate of all of us, esp. in the dumb states that get the same amount of representatives as the states that produce the revenue for this country. |
But 16 year-olds can vote in MD and in DC. Why not 14 year-olds ? |
+1000 double standard |
There is no double-standard. The voting age in local elections has long been 16. |
This is just false. Nobody under the age of 18 has ever voted in a city election in DC. It has happened in a few local municipalities. But it is vanishingly rare, and recent nationwide. |
This is not false at all. What YOU claim is false, PP. why are you lying?? (MAGA maybe?). |
Good point. https://aceproject.org/ace-en/topics/yt/yt20/lowering-the-voting-age |
Yeah, this is a trend https://spp.umd.edu/news/case-16-year-old-vote https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/should-16-year-olds-be-allowed-to-vote |
| Great, let’s allow Russian and Chinese foreign nationals to vote too while we’re at it. And cats and dogs |
| Youth would generally be categorized as low information voters. And having more low information voters voting is vital to electing more Dems, and keeping Dem incumbents in office. |
If you can show data that proves Russian and Chinese nationals and cats and dogs reliably vote D, it’ll get traction. |
PP here. Can you point me to something showing that anyone under the age 0f 18 has ever voted in DC? No state and less than 25 cities confined to three states allow voting under the age of 18. Listen, I am on the fence about lowering the voting age in local elections. I'm not arguing for or against it. I am disputing the inaccurate statement that "the voting age in local elections has long been 16." This is not true, at least in general elections. |
