Why not lower the voting age to 14?

With the republican supreme court ending Roe, and many other issues, teens are increasingly effected by the consequences of elections.

And todays teens are much better informed.

Shouldn’t they have some say in their own lives?

The 26th amendment.

But we've been told repeatedly brains aren't fully developed until something like 25 years old, yet we are going to be lowering the voting age from 18?

I have a 14-year-old. He shouldn't be voting.

When my DD was 16 she was cackling on and on about how funny it was that so many people were voting for an ape named Harambe. She did not understand why I was not amused. 14 is pretty immature and selfish age.

The voting age limitation should be abolished, anyone paying over $10K annually in taxes should have the right to vote regardless of age.

So poor people should not have a voice?

18 is fine. I'm also okay with 16-year-olds voting in local municipal elections only since they are directly affected by decisions about schools, so there's that. But that's all.

There are some people on the right who want to raise the age to 25 or even 30, arguing something about prefrontal cortex development and having skin in the game as far as contributing to society. By their logic, we should also cap the voting age at 75, so people losing their mental faculties due to advanced age shouldn't vote either. But right wingers don't argue that for some reason.

I say leave it as it is, but since minors under 18 can't vote, they shouldn't have to pay income taxes. Let them keep their summer gig earnings for chrissakes.

So in DC criminals can be treated as “juveniles” up to the age of 24 or 25 because their brains are still developing. But vote at 14 — no problem!

Why stop there?

I say we lower the voting age to conception. OK, maybe viability if you insist.

OP is probably 14.

Why 14? You’re discriminating against everyone younger.

Make the voting age 2 years old.

Well duh!!! Odds are they’ll vote D. And we need all the people we can get voting D. That’s what’s given us everything we have so far, and it’ll also be the fix for it!

This national D would love to have the chance to vote for viable Rs as DC mayor and for DC Council! Law and order, a rebuilt police department, wise spending, competent government, accountable schools, cut the waste. We need all of that.

Two-year olds are directly affected by local policies. Of course, they should have a say.
