If you ask your house cleaner to skip a visit, do you still pay?

I always pay. We paid during covid as wel and they came very rarely when we were out of the house. Its her livelihood (she has a couple helpers). We get great service and shes never cancelled on us. She tentatively asked if it was ok that she doesn't come on Christmas even! We don't celebrate so i forgot to move it ahead of time and of course we rescheduled. I bet if we asked, she would have come then too.

I always pay, too, and paid during Covid as well. She relies on the income, after all. Just because I cancel doesn’t mean she can skip rent this week.

No

We always pay if we have to cancel. How is this even a question? Also horrified by those of you who cx and don't pay - do you think they (they meaning the company OR the individual) should just eat that loss? They've reserved the day/time for YOU - if you cx, you should pay up

No. We pay per visit.

You pay of course! Especially a non-company they’ve reserved the day and time for you and unless, as you cancel, you give up that spot, you’re pretty much an a-hole if you don’t

I would pay if I cancelled and could not reschedule my biweekly cleaner. She relies on the weekly income to support her family in a way none of us do.

I’m the one that answered that we don’t pay anymore because we use a service. The service has our credit card on file and charges us per clean. We have a different team of people each time. When I cancel the owner doesn’t charge, ever. I have offered and he has declined. The owner does not clean and if I somehow insisted on paying I doubt the women cleaning would get more money. We also don’t have a set time every visit. He will text me two days before what time is best for them because they do take one time jobs.

If I cancel with less than a day's notice, I pay. If I cancel in advance, I do not pay. However, if I am canceling in advance, I always try to reschedule for another day or time, but generally, she cannot accommodate - which I completely understand, but then I am not paying.

Wow PP, your housekeeper sounds like an awesome worker!

To not accept money unless she earns it is very noble of her.

I don't, but I do take a make up if she is available, even if it means getting a clean two weeks in a row (I usually do 2x/month). It's a small business with their own crew and one of the owner always comes with the crew.

Yes, you pay.

Cleaners were supposed to come today but we have company staying over so I asked her not to come. Other times this has happened are when we were home with sick kids, when we were out of town and someone was staying at our home with the dogs, or when DH had a critical presentation over zoom and needed the house silent.

I always still pay in these situations, but wondered what the norm is and if I’m throwing money away. Rescheduling isn’t an option, it’s either our time slot or we skip the visit.

If you cancel them then you still pay.
