Festive holiday cookie that is not a cutout

Chocolate chip cookies, sub red and green m and m's for the chips.

Peppermint merengue cookies look impressive but are actually super easy.

Ina Garten’s Coconut jam thumbprints or just regular jam thumbprints.
OP, you need something more in the “vanilla” zone.

I would do thumbprints and the peppermint meringues.

Jam thumbprints are festive but I feel the jam doesn’t have enough punch…what do you use?

I like 7 layer bars at xmas. So rich and indulgent but super easy to make

We just made my daughter's favorite snickerdoodles and replaced some of the sugar in the cinnamon-sugar coating with red and green colored sugar. Came out very festive looking!

Bet they would look great! My crowd doesn’t love mint…they want chocolate, cinnamon, warm spices

Another vote for jam thumbprints. Just make them really jammy for punch? Ball, roll the ball in colored sugar, don't flatten it much and make a big deep thumbprint for the jam. Raspberry seedless, please. Save some for me.

My Grandmother made Russian tea cookies, shortbread with a peppermint decoration, macaroons (not macrons) plus fudge / divinity (which are not easy to make)

Please recommend what you would add to make the cookie tray a bit more holiday…thx!

Coconut macaroons (drop style, super simple) - you could dip in chocolate and/or sprinkle some with crushed candy cane.

Fudge, also potentially with sprinkled candy cane. Or with a white chocolate layer on top.

My personal favorite is candy cane shortbreads with a hint of peppermint extract. Very festive.

I love most of these cookies. Just wanted to add that a simple way to “holiday-up” a cookie tray is to add around the perimeter hershey kisses and rolos in red and green foils.
