| For years I’ve done dozens of cutouts, frosted and decorated. They’re impressive but I want a simpler cookie that might have frosting and sprinkles but not the time consuming cutout. Bakers, please recommend. |
| Italian rainbow cookies are the clear winner. I am making them today, they will be ready tomorrow. |

These are a favorite here. I use Dutch cocoa and they turn out like brownie dough flavored cookies.

They are a winner but they’re not any simpler than cutout, frost and decorate with sprinkles cookies…looking for simpler recipe. |
They do look yummy and they’re a good simple recipe! Also looking for a recipe that I can include red and green colors… |
| Refrigerator cookies that you chill, slice and bake. You can roll them in sprinkles or nuts before slicing. I saw one in the NYT cooking section the other day where you roll in sprinkles. You can also roll two flavors together for pinwheels. I used to make one that was a pistachio and chocolate pinwheel. Should be able to find recipes. Easier than rolling dough but do need to chill them for at least an hour, maybe longer. |
Great idea! I have seen those…thx! |

I like to do simple cutouts. I only use two shapes - tree and star. I zigzag icing across the trees and scrawl a star outline on each star.
Taste matters to me more than elaborate decorations. By the time you do those intricate designs on a huge sugar cookie it isn’t fresh or yummy anymore. |
Eh, that is true, not easy to make, but not a cutout. |
|
I think the easiest cookies to make are Snowballs, also called wedding cakes, and they are delicious too.
Any drop cookie or pan cookie is easy and less work than using cookie cutters. |
| I am currently making Gingersnaps. Maybe they are not Christmas-y enough for some. |
|
Op here….im a baker and this is what I’ve made so far…chocolate chip with salted pecans, peanut butter/banana chip crunch, chocolate cookie with peanut butter chip and pumpkin spice soft cookie with maple glaze. All of these were by family request.
Please recommend what you would add to make the cookie tray a bit more holiday…thx! |
| Yeah, none of those seem like Christmas cookies to me. I’d do peppermint blossoms or pinwheels, ginger snaps, cherry spice cookies, molasses cookies. Just something more seasonal. |
| And don’t underestimate the no-bake options. Rollo pretzels, candy cane bark, heck I just add a bowls of red and green m&ms to the Christmas cookie tray and they always disappear. |
| You need something more colorful, less chocolate. Jam thumbprints, sugar cookies rolled in red and or green sanding sugar, for a no bake do white chocolate dipped pretzels decorated with red and green melted white chocolate (candy melts). |
