Teacher here and we’re off Dec 15- Jan 2 and I HATE IT!
First, we had NO time from thanksgiving to do both academics AND Christmas stuff. It was like a freaking mad rush. Now I’m home with 10!!! days before Christmas! It’s way too long. And going back Jan 2 is quite possibly the most painful thing ever. |

A A A A A A —signed an overworked principal who’s needed this break more than anything. Thank you FCPS for this calendar. |
C is a good balance this year. |
C SUCKS- LCPS got screwed this year. I think I prefer B over A but in any case it should be 2 weeks. |
Are you a teacher? I'm in LCPS and think the break is fine this year. Its more than long enough for students and families. 2 week breaks just means summer starts later. |
m Yes I’m a teacher. Have you not realized that we have a shorter winter break this year AND go a week later into June than we did last year ? |
Not a math teacher I see. We accidentally only had 170 days of school last year. It was the anomaly - you got 10 free days off. This year is back to normal with 180. |
How is that even possible? They make these calendars and go over them 10x and managed to short themselves 10 days? In any case, we had only 1 snow day with 10 built in so we made it up anyhow. |
A has been hard as a 2 working parent family. |

Another vote for C. |
A and B are just dependent on how the calendar falls. Many districts who know they are giving two weeks will end up with A some years and B some years depending on which day of the week Christmas falls.
Basically the question is if you like a shorter or longer winter break. LCPS has had the Dec 15th two week winter break and next year will have the late 2 week winter break. This year was an anomaly that we didn't get two weeks. |
I don't care as long as it's two weeks long. This short break SUCKS. Not inspiring to see all the teachers saying they're not ready to go back. |
We can thank you and your friends in a certain parent lobbying group for lobbying for 180. Thanks a bunch for nothing. All you accomplished was a wasted 3 days in the weird half week before Christmas. Half the kids were out anyways, kids who went watched movies, there was no teaching. The rest of us - parents and teachers - would have much preferred two weeks off. |
