Anyone know anything about Brearley School in NYC? Son is dating

Lucky you, Lady Larla! Push them into a marriage post-haste. The Brearley girl's ample dowry will pay off the debts incurred by your spendthrift husband, the Duke of Pimmit Hills. Your son and his dollar princess will finally be able to refurbish the family (trailer park) estate and perhaps even fund a brand-new Double Wide Dowager's House on the premises.

Their sports teams are called the Beavers. Brearley Beavers. Yup.

At my HYP school, the brearley girls were either wound tight as a drum or super wealthy.
I don’t miss them.

What sort of trashy person asks this. Why does it matter? What if she had gone to an inner city public school?

What sort of person calls another trashy?

Although OP couldn't google this is beyond me.

Exactly this.

OP, DCUM is not a safe space to ask this sort of question.

She has a brain. Brearley is generally regarded as the most prestigious of the all girls schools in Manhattan. Yes, it's very expensive. But as private schools go, it is very generous with financial aid. It also has a reputation for rejecting girls who are legacies from wealthy families who are not particularly smart themselves. Decades ago, it was the "blue stocking" school. (See this is you aren't familiar with that term.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluestocking ) It admitted Jews at a time when some of the WASPy private schools did not.

It was NEVER the kind of school parents enrolled their daughters in with the hope that they would meet a nice rich boy and marry him shortly after her coming out party. It was the kind of school that wealthy parents who valued education and wanted their daughters to be as well educated as their sons chose.

So, yes, most--though certainly not all--Brearley girls are from wealthy families, but it also has a rep as an academic pressure cooker. College matriculation is impressive. https://www.brearley.org/student-life/upper-school/college-advising

What sort of trashy person asks this. Why does it matter? What if she had gone to an inner city public school?

What sort of person calls another trashy?

Although OP couldn't google this is beyond me.

She googled it. And then came here to do what she thought was a humble brag.

Just calling the balls and strikes. All she should worry about is whether her son is happy and this woman is a good fit for him. Plus, in real life, it's your college that counts, not your prep school.

Parents do not need to be “rich”

Yes tuition is high. It’s not high for Manhattan and most students do not pay that.

Way better than DC area privates academics.

Like number two in the country ranking

It has a scandal of racism long standing racism.

I’d be worried my new daughter in law might be a Republican pos. Hopefully they finally rooted that crap out.

Not sure why OP did not just google the school.

Do you have any idea how silly you sound?

NP. No, she doesn’t. Because no one will tell her to her face that she’s a bigoted idiot.

Which schools do parents send their DDs to with hopes that they’ll hook a rich husband?

If they are at the same college, who cares where she went to high school? They are peers now.

Her family may be very wealthy, or she's a kid who got a lot of financial aid. Why does it matter?
