How many billionaires have you met in person?

One, through work. Self made businessman. Did not seem odd but had a lot of staff running around trying to anticipate his wishes. Also seemed isolated in that he didn’t seem to trust or be comfortable around anyone other than fellow billionaires. Like he wouldn’t even share a plane for a business trip with his most trusted advisors.

Several. And from several countries.

I interacted with one recently and their lifestyle weirdly left me feeling a bit sad for them. Lonely and can't trust anyone.

Several. The self made ones are pretty driven. Nice people, hard working. The family wealth ones are very kind and low key. They are all generous, extremely. They tip exceedingly well. They are very generous with gifts without being showy.

Three. One who has been prosecuted for corruption. One who is trying to overthrow American democracy. One is a nice guy and keeps it on the down low because of kidnapping threats.

Off the top of my head, 4.
2 were guys I went to HS with. Their parents/grandparents were billionaires in the 80s, when few people were. Both are now helping to run the family company. One of them was very low key. The other, we called Richie Rich, because he looked like the character and talked like Thurston Howell. No kidding. We gave him a lot of flack, but he took it in stride.
#3 is also a heir to a lucrative family business. Super quirky and kind guy, you would never in a million years know how rich he is.
#4 is a piece of work. He went into the same line of work as his dad. Used the family name to create a very lucrative business and is well known in that world (Silicon Valley). He’s been publicly outspoken about many issues and sometimes lands in the news, though few would have heard of him. Not well liked amongst our friends.

None but on vacation my friends and I were invited on a well known billionaire’s yacht by a couple of guys on the staff. The billionaire wasn’t there. I could not believe how huge it was. I use remember the dining room sat about 20 people. The 1% and their massive yachts.

Ross Perot was legitimately hilarious to listen to and loved to drive his boat super fast, to the point where his body man reined him in.

Not a billionaire, only worth about $600m at his top wealth level, but I met John Shirley (former CEO of Microsoft) and he was a genuinely nice guy. Happy to talk to everyone about his car collection. Also met Steve Jobs but that was only a 30-second talk, he was also super nice.

One that I know well. Self made. Lovely guy. Lots of kids with different women, divorced but ultimately quite lonely.
Private jet type. Multiple houses. Lots of philanthropy.not a lot of interests outside work. Introvert.

Three - all self made. Very smart and driven. Humble and quite fun but they are all sharks when it comes to business. Only one was a bit odd but he was the smartest one and was a tech nerd - wore the same clothes everyday, looked unkempt, socially awkward, etc.

I was related to one, self made in the entertainment industry in the 1980’s and 1990’s. He was hard to relate to- multiple Malibu and Bel Air houses and over the top with his peers but modest with the common folk. He had a huge security team, an estate manager and a bunch of other staff. I remember visiting him in the 1980’s and he had a CD player that played 50 CD’s, a Shar Pei and an outdoor pizza oven. And it was the first time I’d experienced staying in someone’s home where there was fresh water by the bed. It was the little things.

The most interesting thing about him in my opinion is that he donated equally to both the Democrats and the Republicans. He hedged his bets.

2. One was a real estate tycoon and super nice and down to earth. The other came from family money and then developed some tech product. A lot more flashy but still nice.
