Blair magnet and RMIB - how have EA/ED gone?

Was about to say something similar. Wheaton is doing great with at least 5 Ivy/T15 admits!

Know another Blair CAP admitted to Northwestern.

This group gets a little myopic. (I am also a Blair magnet parent, so nothing against Blair magnet --very happy with that program too).

Why is Blair SMCS so closed up about it? I know many of the kids go to UM but really would be good to know. It’s a really strong cohort of kids and some realistic expectation setting would be helpful, considering how much kids can’t help but compare themselves to their peers.

Blair usually has a commits IG page, but (like most public I think) they don't come out until Spring when more students have commitments to report. I think that is good because a lot of kids got rejected or deferred early, and having everyone else's commitments up now could just add unnecessary stress. Blair's is for the school and only reports what students submit.

It would be better to have a commits IG page early for other students to make a decision about where to focus on the RD applications.

The magnet administrator very much doesn’t want to share that info. He made that very clear at the open houses - it has no bearing on where your kid will go and you should pick that program if it’s the right level of challenge for your kid not because you expect it to get them into a particular college.

Maybe all I know is that every year, Blair consistently has the most prestigious admits of any HS in MCPS.

Link or lie. (hint, lie). The problem is the oversaturated STEM applicants all with nearly identical applications and competing with one another.

RMIB

there aren’t any posted northeastern commits from RMIB yet, just non-IB. there was one to northwestern, however, if that’s what you’re referring to.

Why would anyone apply ED to northeastern?

My kid also said a number of kids with admits are not posting until they get their financial aid packages as that will determine if they can actually accept.
That’s big difference with the orivqte school admits — lots of top kids are not applying outside u md because of finances.

That absolutely makes sense.

Good for him. I'm finding this very unappealing.

It's not really the same as looking at the demographic data for where a class went, something I've seen published in the Washingtonian, I think? Or Bethesda Magazine? I can understand wanting to see that for research.

But this is just a breathless one-upmanship show. It's gauche.

I’m certain the main reason most of the magnet applicants/students want to go to that magnet is because they and their parents want to get into a particular college. So, yes, these people want to know what the end result of having gone to the magnet will likely look like.
